Even though it was only three years long, the Clone Wars was being fought on thousands of worlds between giant armies all at the same time. This is why so many characters treat it as a horrible and dark part of galactic history. The Rebellion against the Empire was limited to only a handful of worlds at a time with one side relying entirely on guerrilla tactics. Even if you factor in Alderaan, the casualty count and destruction was nothing compared to the Clone Wars. Only the Great Galactic Wars of the Old Republic Era and the Yuuzhan Vong War which came afterwards can compare to how destructive the Clone Wars were.

He even trained some loyalist agents to continue his work. He may have been used and discarded by Palpatine, but he became the Al Capone of the Star Wars underworld. Actually Nux. Disney didn't retcon it, the backstory you watch is for the origin of Grievous for Star Wars Expanded Universe. George Lucas didn't used since it not how he envision the character, he want him to be a "mustache curly" villain due to George not like his origin, it too similar to Anakin turn into Darth Vader, he want Vader to be a heartless cold villain. I think Dave Filloni try to do it but it didn't happen. So Dave Filloni did make up with this backstory but he preferred to make Grievous backstory ambiguous.

51:43 Thrawn was essentially a leader so top-tier, so giga-brained that he probably could have single-handedly stopped the rebels from ever defeating the empire, and they only managed to do so because he was sent on a mission to explore the Unknown Regions of the galaxy with his fleet. Thrawn was also responsible for stopping the rebels from getting access to the Tie Defender, a starfighter that was so insanely powerful that, to quote Wedge Antilles, the dude who survived assaulting BOTH Death Stars, "If the empire had more than a few of these we probably would have lost the war" (The defender's sole issue was that it was expensive, but it was at least twice as durable as an X wing, with better shields, faster engines, a hyperdrive, and had torpedoes and ion cannons. it was literally the perfect multirole starfighter). Thrawn literally came back from the Unknown Regions, post-return of the jedi, and proceeded to single-handedly drag the war back to an almost even fight from what was, at the time, a near-total republic dominated war at that point. He was that much of a strategic genius. They only were able to stop him via assassination, there was literally nobody that was capable of actually beating him in a straight up conflict. (In Legends at least.)
@theazurefire91
@theazurefire91 6 ай бұрын
Except he lost the Battle of Sluis Van, and even if he hadn't been assassinated by his own bodyguard he would have lost the Battle of Bilbringi. Thrawn being this unstoppable force is not accurate...to the point that his creator even wrote a story where Leia flat out says Thrawn was no where near as dangerous as his legacy makes him out to be.
@TheMongral
@TheMongral 6 ай бұрын
@@theazurefire91 You will note I pointed out that he dragged things back to an "Almost Even" fight. That does not imply "oh man, he won everything, every battle he started", it merely implies that he was able to turn a lot of battles around. He nearly dragged a republic victory back to an almost stalemate. Notably, He was not a jedi or sith, but for an ordinary dude Thrawn _was_ actually one of the better commanders in-universe. Indeed, Thrawn was not an unstoppable force, but that does not diminish the fact that he was one of the stronger leaders in the imperial lineup.

Fun story, the first Star Wars novel I ever read was the Clone Wars story Jedi Trial, which was the original story of how Anakin became a Knight. It was for a summer reading assignment where we could choose one book ourselves. It was much darker than what was shown in the movies, with violence akin to Saving Private Ryan. 5:56 The inhibitor chip thing was a big old retcon done by Dave Filoni because the way he had been portraying the clones didn't line up with their actions in ROTS so he had to use the chips as an excuse. 21:53 No, what he was saying is that the CIS constantly fought *against* the native population of various planets instead of working with them. This led to these planets siding with the Republic. This was part of Palpatine's plan of course, because Ryloth, Pantora and Kashyyyk had both considered joining the CIS but the CIS in turn treated them poorly, with the CIS brutally occupying Ryloth and wiping out whole vilages, murdering the Crown Prince of Kashyyyk and having the Chairman of Pantora's daughters kidnapped. Mimban also had no reason to be loyal to the Republic, but CIS aggression placed them firmly against the CIS. The same is true for Toydaria, where they were neutral but Dooku tried to have the King killed and eventually succeeded. 30:31 No, it is Disney Canon. All of the stuff in the video is. 33:06 It was to have Republic forces occupy the planet. the Separatist stuff is just the excuse Dooku gave, but in reality Palpatine just wanted to have all the neutral systems under military control

Disney sure wants to forget about Kreia because, you know, "Star Wars fans hate women" is hard to peddle when you consider Star Wars has arguably one of the best female villains in all of fiction. To be fair, I think Queen Amidala was 16 in Episode 1. They stated she was the youngest person to hold that title. It’s complicated because there is a time skip of several years between Episode 1 & Episode 2. Hell, the Clone Wars series takes place in the time gap between Episode 2 & Episode 3. Then Rebels takes place between Episode 3 & Episode 4. Also General Grievous’s coughing is because of Mace Windu.

I wanna say Sideous deposed Plageius just before this went into motion because there can only be 2, and Tyrannis (Dooku) was already under Sideous, no longer a mere "Sith Assassin". Plageious cared more for Sith alchemy and extending his life just like his predecessor Tenobris. This is what accidentally created Anakin, Plageous also didn't care for power as much as he wanted the secrets of the universe.This is what made Sideous hate his master, thus killing him in his sleep. Later on that's why in S3-S4 'round there, Sideous orders Dooku to kill Assanj Ventris, one because of her failures but because Dooku's teaching has made her a powerful sith, once again no longer a mere "Sith Assassin", he figured Dooku was about to pull the rug out from under him. Which may very well have been true. Dooku wanted order and he knew well that long term his master would do more damage then the Republic has in the last millennia.

@@giannicolamatteo8155 That part I am unsure of tbh. What I can guess is two fold. 1. They are a part of the Republic but aren't to take a political stands, their only standing is Truth, Justice and Peace and to keep it that way. So either the Republic gives them a budget of sorts, or they take donations similar to a church would. But secondly who decides how much and over how much time. Shit I forgot the second part but I think you know where I'm going with this. Oh wait I remember in a comic?? maybe, might be Bounty Hunter. It's eluded that Tyrannius paid it all directly with siphoned funds from the Republic under Sipho-Dias' name. it's the same credits used to help lure Jango Fett into being the template. I wanna say CW kind of muddied it up a bit because it draws former Chancellor Velorum and a aid of his into it, and idk if that was og or possibly new-canon to fit it in.

And with a new Dragon Age game dropping fairly soon, now would be a really good time to check out the series.
