Everyone "knows" that even the statement itself is hypocritical but is it really? Just read in between the lines a little more and it reads like, "yeah, we both kill, and we both killed for the empire, but at least we try/tried, you kill indiscriminately and a whole digit more than we do just for the lulz" Hypocritical or not its a sick burn if you ask me. Books gave me unrealistic expectations of what the rest of the library was like. Nothing can match these books though. Have read 70 or 80 more since reading these first last year and these just hit different. From the numeral slaves and the get the life below decks and their Stockholm Syndrome,and the thrill when you read the word PreySight and know that it's about to get real.

For those who havent read the books and short stories: Variel the Flayer survives and extracts Talos' geneseed. He finds Septimus and Octavia, and ends up taking their child, Decimus (the tenth). I'm not sure whether they die or not. He then implants Talos' geneseed into the child and seeks out the Atramentar to begin the rebuilding of the 8th Legion around the new Prophet whose powers now come at no detriment. The final short story is a young Decimus, with Variel and the Atramentar by his side, assembling a meeting of all the various Knight Lord warbands to prove he has inherited Konrad Curzes ability to predict the future. He accurately predicts who will join and who will die. This is right before the fall of Cadia. The reason the Aeldarii wanted Talos dead is because the newly assembled Knight Lords led by the new Prophet Decimus destroy an Aeldari Craft World.

He also predicts the fall of the imperium and the ultimate victory of Chaos and in turn the night lords. Not just "Abbadons got it this time" but making it clear that while this will cost us, the because of this sacrifice we WILL win the long war in the end. So who knows how accurate his prediction is. Though it's unfortunite that so far GW doesn't appear they are going to be doing anything more with his character as a major player in the main storyline.

i doubt it can fit into 40k canon, a newblood night lord uniting the 8th, it should be impossible, the old high ranking officers could not do it. Only Kurze and Sevatar could ever make it happen imo.

Decimus could definitely do it, he has the support of one of the highest ranking Atramentar, Malek. Not to mention being descended from Talos geneseed, along with being part Navigator because of his mother. Decimus might be a young blood Night Lord, but he's a heavy weight and the new Prophet of the VIIIth Legion. Aaron Dembski Bowden really needs to continue Decimus story. He can do it, nobody writes Traitor Legion stories better than ADB.

Thank you for this amazing video Amber King! Talos has become one of my favorite 40k characters ever. Though I'm a loyalist at heart, the Prophet's story in the Night Lords trilogy is so darn compelling! The Night Lords became one of the most fascinating traitor legions in 30k especially Sevatar, and their 40k story with First Claw was so compelling. So many layers indeed! And man, Uzas' fate is so heart wrenching... Talos is still a traitor and a monster, and I feel his final fate goes to show that even the traitors don't have "good endings" in this grim dark universe. In some ways, his story is definitely tragic. ADB was a genius making this trilogy and I agree completely with you about how Talos is built up maybe like an anti-hero, but ther third entry reminds us he is very much a villain. He is a monster putting the teachings of Curze to practice. And fate simply caught up to him after his many sins. Great summary of the trilogy and thanks you once again @TalesOfTerraVA for voicing the character so well!

There is one story that i think was missed Fear the Xenos: the core It takes place between book 2 and 3, it’s a short story and focuses on traitors vs a xenos hunting the group. It also is why the salamanders mentioned in book 3 as this is when they are brought into the story.
