A couple of years ago, I started to do 10 push-ups before going to bed. Kinda just to prove it to myself and boost my ego. But it stuck. I later raised the number to 15 then 20 and I added sit-ups which I also increased. Now I am at 40 push-ups and 50 sit-ups before bed time. And I can't go to sleep if I don't. This video has incouraged me to keep on improving and maybe also add other exercises.

This video was a huge help, especially the bit about Trigger-Routine-Reward and substituting the routine. Just out of curiosity though, do you think it's a good idea to go one step beyond something like taking a walk to instead another goal? To give an example, I've procrastinated on writing similar to you but instead of taking a walk I decided to clean my room which I'd been meaning to do. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't be able to convince myself that I should, but I was able to under these conditions. This wouldn't work every time because my room isn't always messy, but what if I were to do a workout as the routine? What I want to do is when I take a break from writing I go do a quick workout (let's say a 7 minute core exercise) and brainstorm ideas as my bodies moving. Then once I want to take another break I'll do another workout (let's say an arm workout with push-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, etc.) and continue to brainstorm ideas. I could be killing three birds with one stone because I can 1. Keep a consistent workout routine, 2. Give my mind a break from writing and 3. Brainstorm ideas to break through writers block. The main problems I see with this routine is that I would be using too much energy and wouldn't want to continue writing because I'd be so drained, though this may not be the case because each workout would be rather short considering their broken up into chunks. Do you believe this is would be an efficient use of my time or do you believe I would be using too much energy?

Love that this video shows you not just the steps you have to take but also the science behind it! Keep it up making videos that we can implement in our daily lives! Going to try (again) to read in a book everyday. Because of your video going to try it 10 minutes everyday to make it easier, and not fail again 😅. Hope this is the right way to do it.
@TommoCarroll5 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the idea! Maybe try what I have? Instead of a time goal just set a simple 1 page goal. Most of the time I read the 1 page and then end up saying ‘screw it, I’ll read some more!’

Duuuuuude.... this video. In the last year I have lost 52lbs by employing some of the exact techniques you talk about. My keystone habit was actually trying to get better sleep. I read up on sleep recovery and realised I needed to go to bed much earlier than 1-2am so I could get better recovery from sleep. The result was that I naturally started walking up earlier. Getting up earlier gave me this extra 1.5 hours I didn’t know what to do with ... so I decided to go for a short 10 minute walk....fast forward I now run 15k a week. Keystone habits, going slow and focusing on developing habits over perfection is where it is at. 🤘

Dude! I LOVE this comment on so many levels! This is incredible. It’s pretty much the perfect example of putting these ideas into action! I hope you’re continuing to progress and are still enjoying the process! Do you mind if I share this comment on IG???
