In this video we score a Double Dragon on Craigslist for a mere $100! The game was DOA so we go through the process of fixing power supply, monitor and any/all PCB related issues.

hey Adam, great pickup and fantastic in site to how the schematics work. DD is such a classic and brilliant game. over here in the UK the board alone is $180 so that's a crazy bargain right there.

Dan van voorst I'm also an Iowan, and back when I was in middle school, I worked during the summer at a laundromat/arcade that my uncle owned in Grundy Center. He never paid more than $200 per game. I wish that it was still the 90s.

Do you have any videos on just the wiring for the power supply for this game? I have some disconnected wiring and don't know how to trace it down to correct connector

Great video... on a "Allied Leisure" note... any luck finding the red LEDs for the score displays? I'm tuning up a Take 5 cocktail pin and can't find those display LEDs anywhere.

The dark green issue: for a moment I thought that it could be a case of the colors being adjusted for a sync-on-green monitor where 0 on green would be blacker-than-black.

Great video Adam! and great tips too, like the distilled water technique... I got a rare question. What modules do you have installed in your 16500b? and what probes are you using? Thanks!

What are you using to generate the test patterns to the monitor for adjustment? And if its something costly do you have a cheaper recommendation?
@provato88 жыл бұрын
Great video, I just finished watching all your videos! Do you want to share which test pattern generator you are using? Yours seems perfect for CRT adjusting, And I find it hard to choose one on ebay.

Adam did you have a video posted a new video on pole position? I had thought I ran across it. Did I see one that you might have pulled? I am very interested in this project and would lone to be kept informed of its progress thanks

Thanks Adam for the Double Dragon video. Your videos are very technical and informative. When you replaced the RAM for the color issue you were having, the PCB had 55ms speed silkscreened. The chip you put in, if the RAM chip has faster access speed, does the chip slow down to 55ms or does the RAM chip causes those other chips (L153?) to overdrive? Maybe I have it backwards from what you did. LOL
@onecircuit8 жыл бұрын
The CPU says "hey I need this data" and the RAM responds with the data after a specific amount of time. This time is fixed depending on how the chip was made. Some faster.. some slower. Too slow... and you miss your window.
@SkyCharger0016 жыл бұрын
I've learned that the timing stated on chips is what is guaranteed over the entire production-batch and does not necessarily reflect the specific chip.

Can you also use distilled water to clean monitor boards?

+Super Game Boys Yep you can use distilled water to clean any form of electronics. Just be sure it's completely dry before firing it up.

Great video Adam! One thing I was wondering is, when you pour distilled water on the board, do you use a brush of some sort to scrub it as well?
@onecircuit8 жыл бұрын
+Floydzabarber Yep I typically use a toothbrush. Works great.
@Floydzabarber8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I can't wait to give this a try on some boards I have laying around. One last question if you don't mind, how long does it typically take for a board to dry?
@HappyAtom8 жыл бұрын
+Floydzabarber I finally did my first dishwasher board cleaning and it worked great. I don't know if the Heated Dry feature on the dishwasher is bad for boards so I didn't use it. Instead I blasted off the remaining water with my air compressor. I also removed the flyback before I dishwashered the chassis board.
@onecircuit8 жыл бұрын
+HappyAtom Was it running distilled water though?
@HappyAtom8 жыл бұрын
+OneCircuit No, just a light cycle with no soap and regular house water with no water filters. I have heard others talk about it but never saw it done. The board was really nasty going in and came out nearly spotless. I admit I'm still a bit apprehensive about the process. Thanks for the videos Adam. Don't change a thing. It's rare to find someone like you with skill at savant level who also takes the time to share it with the rest of us.

I figured it out after the video. There's a dip switch setting that will allow you to flip the image. Still not sure why it shows but differently between the 2 setups though.. would imply that the monitor orientation in the cab itself is wrong.

I'm wondering whether the original owner occasionally played the game with wonky colours for a few years, just thinking the game was "getting old", until the power supply eventually died preventing any more use.

If you haven't already, you should take a close look at that ground rail thing (I don't know what it's actually called) on the boardset. I have a Double Dragon boardset, and that rail had several breaks in it that weren't obvious without looking closely. The game still worked fine, even with those breaks, but I figured it was best to fix it anyway. A few of the legs had broken, plus there was a break in the main body of it. Here's how I fixed that main body break: i.imgur.com/UZo8wAl.jpg For the broken legs, I removed the solder and broken sections of legs from the through-holes, then soldered what remained of the legs to the through-hole pads from the top side.
