A small suggestion is to add a single Biomass Burner on your Solid Biofuel line before the Storage Container. Use this Burner to power the three Constructors processing your Biofuel on a separate power grid. This generally keeps your Biofuel production working even if your main grid runs out of fuel. It also makes jumpstarting fuel production easier.

I recommend having the Leaves on the Left.. makes for another easy way to remember where they go.

I do the same, but i saw someone on reddit suggest stacking them and putting leaves in the top one "like a tree". I thought that was a nice idea too.

I am confused at why thats needed. In the time it takes to do that, you could already be into coal

In addition to playing how you like, it is still useful to have this kind of setup even after you’ve got to coal as the biomass burners can remain in place as a backup in the event of power spikes, giving you some breathing room. You’d obviously still want to avoid relying upon it when you get to coal, but it can help with some unexpected spikes, or help smooth your transition from coal to oil based power generation when you’re likely to have a spike in power requirements before you actually start generating more power.

I would also recommend finding a caterium node (Gold) asap and progressing that tech tree in the MAM. If you keep following the left path you'll eventually unlock the smart splitter. This only requires quick wire and copper sheets to unlock. Once you have the smart splitter you can switch the 2 bins at the front for just one bin and you can have it sort your leaves & wood into the correct constructors for you, no chance of putting items in the wrong bin and clogging it up!

Altough this looks great and easy to use :) For anyone looking to expand the capacity beyond 225MW, the leaves in your system is going to limit what you can produce.
@billk6585
@billk6585 9 күн бұрын
By the time you have the caterium for the smart splitter you will probably have T3 belts. If you place a few splitter nodes you can have a truck depot that pulls everything you found exploring and sorts out the logs, leaves, biomass and biofuel for your power system before forwarding the rest into a catch all. I keep these generators available the entire game, it gives you a buffer if you accidentally overrun your power and batteries. It’s worth putting the generators themselves on their own circuit to let the batteries run down a bit before turning on the bio-plant.

Built this exact layout on day one of 1.0. You could also use two constructors for the biomass part and be 100% efficient in producing solid biofuel on mk1 belts.

If you rush Caterium MAM research (as someone suggested) and/or SAM...MAM...research to supplement this build: you will not need to worry about a Coal plant till completing phase 3 pretty easily.

Once you’ve researched creature remains in the MAM you can make massive amounts of biomass quickly by hand-crafting animal protein and then converting each of those into 100 biomass. If you’re in a biome without lush trees and bushes like the dune dessert you can use this setup out of a storage container instead of the initial biomass constructors by just exploring and killing wildlife and then restocking the biomass container when you return to base. Great way to spend time searching for hard drives and alien collectables while your starter factory runs in the background stockpiling materials.

Very solid guide. Clear, concise, and with the extra info after the actual building tutorial is out of the way. The only problem I found is if you’re using a manifold system for your belts, the first few burners stock fuel a lot faster than the rest, and that can cause shutdowns under high draw when there should be plenty of fuel left. I have an array of 12 burners with load-balancing supply lines on my save, and it works perfectly. Looking forward to future guides, it’s been a while since I’ve properly played this game and diversity in solutions is always welcome.

Mine uses 3 modules of 9 biomass burners. Single mk2 belt input of solid biofuel splits 3 ways and each of those lines split into another 3 splitters splitting to 3 biomass burners. This gives a total of 27 biomass burners and 810 total power. The input must be mk2 belt though as the whole facility burns 72 solid biomass/min at 100% utilization
@XF_Chaos
@XF_Chaos 17 күн бұрын
@@michaelvoight7748 I run 2 modules of 6, splitting a belt double at the input, then a compact set of 3 splitters at each module. Less efficient with belt outputs, but it’s designed to be modular for easy upscaling, and I’m already setting up a coal plant. Speaking of, how do you handle an early-game coal plant? I’m building at the waterfall and shipping coal in by truck, which works well once it’s running but is a pain to kickstart.

@@XF_Chaos There are a few locations on the map with coal that's super close to water - close enough that belting it is perfectly reasonable. If you started in the grassy plains, head north-east of the massive waterfall and you'll find a big valley with tons of water + coal. If you started on the rocky coast there's 2 good spots in the northern section of the biome that work very well, too

In most cases you would get a dramatic overflow of biomass, it takes time only to initially fill burners while it would work well after if your biomass production rate exceeds consumption at least for a little

Using this design in my world now. Giving me more time to set up but one downside is the simple splitter chain. This is causing the latter generators to be starved of fuel until the ones before get completely full of biomass. This is fine early on but once you start getting above 60-70% of the capacity you can blow a fuse even if you have hundreds of biofuel left (its all sitting in the first few generators). It would be cool to see a version of this where each generator has equal inputs. That way it will use all of the fuel until it runs out completely.

That tip leaving the wood and leaves in front of each of their respective containers is a good one! I had my own set up and was trying to get enough tickets in the AWSOME shop to get signs which isn't super easy in the early game. But that's a good cheep option!

Clean & simple looking build, but personally I don't bother making a clean build for my biofuel generators, I just put some biofuels like spaghetti and speedrun to coal as soon as possible. Once I unlock coal, then I bother making a clean build for my coal generators and I destroy my old biomass generators.

Very solid guide, thank you! Now what I'm about to try is to rush into somersloops' production doubling and implement it into solid fuel chain which would effectively quadruple the amount of produced solid fuel. There are plenty of free parts scattered around crash sites to make this research affordable even before you got MK2 conveyors

Sorry, I'm confused, is this a design that requires time to spin up, or do I have a fundamental flaw in my understanding of splitter mechanics? Wouldn't the splitters at the end only be getting like 1/16th of the biofuel? That would mean you wouldn't get the full 450 MW until a good 10-15 minutes of letting it spin up. New player, thanks in advance.

I personally like to underclock those constructors to match the input and output belt speeds to help stabilize power spikes. Also an underclocked machine doesn't have a straight 1 to 1 power dip. A machine clocked at 50% requires less than 50% power.

See I'm the other way, I build something similar, but with 24 burners, because 24 stacks fit in a container, the. I store the overflow then when the power trips, I belt the overflow container back in to restart power while I go collect more fuel. But it burns so slowly I hardly have to get fuel.

Note that leaves only output 60 biomass per minute in a standard clock constructor. So the wood complement is mandatory for 225+ MW.

Nice video, I really like the layout you’ve got, and I’ll definitely use this as inspiration when I cleanup my biofuel setup. Also so glad that they added belt inputs to the burners. While a small change it is such a relief to not have to hand load every burner and always made me avoid more involved biofuel setups. Now that I can automate all of it I think I’ll actually expand my current biofuel setup to act as a cheap backup in the event of power spikes.

Yep, I used to just plop down 7-8 burners and then bum rush coal, but since its automatable and I can bank power I feel much less rushed. I know a lot of people wanna get into the more advanced stuff quickly, but ive been enjoying spending time exploring and seeing the more finished world, as well as taking my time developing and decorating my early game factories. Minor change in the grand scheme but one that I love.

Why that much power? That will require far too much time spent collecting leaves and wood. For an experienced player that knows how to rush to coal that kind of power capacity works well but they don't need instruction on how to build something like this. For a beginner player who needs biofuel power instruction it is far more important to minimize power consumption so that they need to spend less time collecting fuel and more time figuring out how to setup (or rebuild) their base. Other than that... nice design and excellent presentation style. As an experiment in 1.0 I am trying to get to coal power with as little biopower as possible. I almost made it with 4 biogenerators (120Mw) but had to up it to 6 (180Mw), and it looks like it will be enough to unlock coal power. All without ever running out of building resources, mainly by alternating the exploration needed for MaM unlocks and designing/building the initial base. That way I collect the biofuel as part of the exploration and at the same time my containers fill up with the resources needed for construction.
