"Make hay while the sun shines!" ☀️🤔🌫
A frontal system has just passed through Central North Island, the winds have backed off and we're ready to take advantage of the calmer skies.
Hop in the jump seat and we'll whip through a quick load spreading solid fertiliser over some beautiful New Zealand farmland. Having good knowledge of your areas local weather patterns is key to taking advantage of these flying opportunities. NZ is full of micro-climates, and knowing them well can make for a very enjoyable flying season.
Aircraft is a New Zealand built Cresco, carrying 1800kgs of solid fertiliser. Footage taken in 2014.
Enjoy!

why cant you do this is Germany
@Kolg-tx3xl
@Kolg-tx3xl 3 жыл бұрын
@@bryceoconnor9640 In Germany, you mostly doesn't have the access to fly that low. Also, our fields aren't that big and we got many powerlines through and around the fields. But the major problem is, that the dropped fertellizer mostly get dropped out of the zone. So our laws and politicans doesn't like cropdusting. 😔 But sometimes, choppas get used to spread lime over the woods or pesticides to protect them. Also the get used to fertilize steep steep wine-fields.

You’re a very smooth pilot. Great flying. I have a question. Why do I see pilots flying from the right hand side of the cockpit in some crop dusting aircraft, Fletchers in particular?

When I was undergoing pilot training, my dream job was to fly the air tractors. My mum and all my relatives all assume i want to become an airline pilot, which I never said I would. Unfortunately, got diseases, health deteriorated a bit and wont be able to pass my CASA medical anymore :( (I'm also unsuited in general as a safe pilot due to many other reasons, like I'm really bad at communicating and I don't think well in the heat of the moment, turns out i have a mental disability) But well that's 65k debt in 2015s money and 20k in savings down the drain, just like that. Now I'm living a minimum wage job in a shitty townhouse, but at least I can play video games, I guess.

Everyday you fly the aircraft at a specific altitude and power settings. We write down the gauge readings. This gives a trend on the engine, which helps identify any issues before they become an issue 😎

How many hours can you go between fuel stops in that Cresco, Jimbo? With all that payload and being pretty much on the gas the entire flight, I'd suspect you're 2-3 hours max between fuel stops. Looks like really intense flying so I'd imagine you're spent after 2 hours anyway😂.
@JimboBurgess
@JimboBurgess 3 жыл бұрын
The Cresco can go up to 2.5hrs. I normally only put enough for 1-1.5hrs flying. That's about when I need a pit stop 😁

G'day Jimbo. I've just discovered your channel. Starting back in Lukla Nepal. Great episodes btw. Some comments refer to you as Jimbo, Jim or James. Let's go with James. I know only 2 James or Jim. One was the son of my cousin, who has sadly passed away. The other was my uncle who as a tail gunner in a Stirling during WW2 was shot down along with the rest of his 8 man crew, and is buried in the La Baule war cemetery in France. If you are that James, we are obviously related. I'd love to chat with you about the other Jim. Maybe check out photos we've taken at the cemetery. Sorry mate to message you this way, but I don't have a PM address for you. Atb Bryan.
