The Ironing a book to get rid of ink IS real, however it's specifically the "erasable pens", as they use heat sensitive ink to make them disappear. This is why rubbing them with an eraser works, but it also means any hot object, from a flame to an iron, will make the ink 'disappear'. If you put it in a freezer the ink will return iirc.

3:42 Those are Frixion pens, they erase using the heat generated from friction, so that you can rub out the ink. The ink can also be erased by anything else that generates heat, like leaving it out in the sun for ages, putting it in a photocopier that uses heat, or, in this case, ironing.

I know why the one with the ironing the book works. It's because of the type of pen, if you look in the background at any time during that clip you can see that there is a little stylus looking thing on the tip of the pen. Those pens use a special ink that dissapears when it gets heated up and if you were to put that book in the fridge for a little time then all of the writing would come back
