Edit: This info is outdated , I'll add a parentheses for how it works as of October 2021 Extensive testing for speed results: 1:Use the smaller roadwhells for higher top speed ,and the larger ones for more acceleration (outdated) 2: use smaller sprocket for acceleration and larger one for top speed (gearing now compensates better for smaller sprockets but bigger still better) 3: use the thickest tracks possible if you don't care about the extra weight Despite the extra weight ,it always adds speed 4: use the highest rpm engine that has enough torque for your design in all cases but if you are really low on internal volume(in which case use the highest displacement engine and try to increase sprocket size/reduce transmission ratio(outdated) 5: each tank needs a balance on the width of the tracks ,depending on its weight and how many you have . Generally stick around 0.2-0.4 width and interleaved and test from there 6: using sprocket size to fit your needs rather than lowering transmission ratio has more efficient torque transfer to the tracks ,and is always better unless it gets in your way (relevant ,but to a smaller extent) 7: make the final gear top out at engine max rpm + or - 10% usually its better to be 10% off then to have it exact (can't go 10% over max rpm anymore, and now days its better to be exact) 8: torque and rpm are way more important than horsepower
@Damn_that_is_crazy3 жыл бұрын
in my head i was yelling at him cause the more surface area your tracks have to travel, the more power is needed, but also, if you make them too small, the rpm has too be ridiculously high

Look up truck gear ratios, like for a semi. The big number is a bigger gear reduction, thus slower and more torque.
@jakubpollak20673 жыл бұрын
If you are slowing down on highest gears, that mean you actually found the smallest ratio For ex. at 25:20 from fifth gear is okay, sixth is too much, so your lowest ratio (highest gear) should be between 0.5 and 0.6 for given engine Also: Ratios are NOT linear, so making gears like you did in 24:50 is not a great idea Difference between gear ratios is called gear spacing, and it should be smaller at higher gears, your spacing is constant ~0.1 for 4 gears

The larger the sprocket, the more track will move when it turns, that will lower it's effective pulling power but increase its top speed.

In game it is the wheels that give the momentum to tracks So bigger wheels make you faster. The best combo is minimum lenght, good transmission and fast (not powerful) engine
@michellemorrison58412 жыл бұрын
Incorrect, the larger the drive sprocket the higher top speed, smaller drive sprocket means quicker acceleration, so if you want to use small drive sprocket you would have to compensate with less gears and/or lower gear ratios to get high speeds, opposite with larger drive sprocket, more gears or higher ratios, gear ratios represent number of full revolutions per one revolution of engine, transmission or tires, so if you have 1st gear set at 3.0 that means that gear makes 3 full revolutions per one full revolution of the tracks, effectively making a 3:1 drive ratio this is considered a tall or long ratio good for speed, if you set 1st gear to 10.0 this means 10 revolutions of that gear make 1 full rev of the tracks, equals 10:1 drive ratio, this is considered a short ratio, good for acceleration... Hope this helps everyone make better gearing easier in the future, also always set max target rpm 200 to 500 rpms short of max engine rpm, this will keep you in the power without damaging motor...
