Shots fired! You bring valid points tho. More and more are only focusing on pumping as much videos for the least time possible, running barely what you do daily and call it a review. Unfortunately, it happens with almost everything that can be "reviewed" - electronics, clothes, cars. Those are "overviews" and something people can do for themselves just by going to the store and testing a shoe out. Customers that buy their stuff want to hear about durability. What you do is not only respectable but also very valuable for the consumers who buy their stuff. Most others are just salesmen - new product > "feels great i promise, buy it, i ran 5 miles" > rinse > repeat. Its funny because most of these channels are operated by multiple people yet they can't bother having everyone on a different shoe and doing the review properly. Instead, have everyone on the same shoe, go for a jog and pull the camera. As for the SC Trainer V3, for the average Andy like me who haven't tried that many stuff let alone 200$+, these feel nice. I am yet to put the miles in but hope they last. Luckily i scored them for 130€. Its my first plated shoe and i really enjoy the responsiveness, energy return, the "bounce" these offer over the regular daily trainers. My last New Balance's were Rebel V2 and these feel different and very fun.

I chose this as my daily trainer/workout day shoe for my first marathon prep because it comes in 2E, is very comfortable and supportive, and makes a 10-11 minute pace (my workout day pace) feel pretty matural. Im a bigger guy with very wide feet, i have tried so many shoes before these, and these worked out the best. Maybe as I speed up getting closer to the marathon, I will want something faster, but man, no other brands make shoes like this in 2E, maybe I'll try to find a V2. Also run in the ghost max 2 on recovery/easy days and love those.

I have a plantar plate injury and was advised to run in a less flexible, rocker forefoot shoe with the lowest drop possible. I own the Brooks Ghost Max V1 and was able to run in it when it was new. However, after reaching 60 km, it began to break in, becoming softer and more flexible, which caused pain in my forefoot. Now, I can only use it as a walking shoe. Currently, I am able to run in the Boston 12, which has now reached 70 km. I believe this is because the Boston 12 has a plate and a firmer midsole, which prevents bending in the forefoot area, thereby reducing the pain from my plantar plate injury. I'm now looking for a second pair of shoes similar to the Boston 12. I've shortlisted the Hyperion Max 2 and the SC Trainer v3 but am unsure which of these is more similar to the Boston 12, more durable (unlike the Ghost Max V1), and suitable for easy runs. I run at a very slow pace of around 8 min/km. I'm 50 years old, 183 cm tall, and weigh 78 kg.

The SC trainer v3 will be launched August 5th in the South Korea and I'm waiting to buy these because the Novablast 4 is sold out and the Hoka shoes are expensive in our country. I recently bought Novablast 3 in about 80 dollars but the upper was kind of hot in very hot and humid Korean Summer. Thanks for reading too long reply.

Another great video that shows how a 100mi test with a 20mi long run shows what the shoe can do and what it can't do..until you have done the 20mi long run you don't know how the foam holds up after 2hrs+ on feet..almost any shoe can work for 5k but the longer the distance gets the more weaknesses of the shoe show themselves. .this is why I always start my day with yowana and a cinnamon raisin bagel with honey and my caffeine. .my shoe choices are not necessarily the same but any shoe I like always have the same basic characteristics and I use the same training philosophy. .great job as always. .

Great review and comparison. I ran a 1:40 half in the endorphin speed 4 and felt like the forefoot was bottoming out in the last few miles. 160#. only thing i would say that the Novablast 4 is a dry weather shoe, taking it out in the rain or any sloppy conditions makes it less versatile imo. i think with the sc trainer which yes is $40 more you could probably run that in a downpour and not worry about running over slick sidewalks or muddy roads etc. if the novablast 5 changes to the asics grip like they did in the superblast 2 then yea it would be a no brainer imo
@supwell5 ай бұрын
So true - the grip on novablast 4 is dangerously bad. I didn't have a chance to do wet weather in the sc trainer v3 but I took it on some trails and it did great. And I took rebel v4 through the pouring rain and it held up really well - pretty sure that's the same rubber as the trainer v3

Some advice please! Half marathon on the horizon. Big guy, 1.88m, 260-270lbs. Last year I did it in 2.18 having walked a section. Aiming for sub 2.15 so need a super comfy shoe, ideally light for when my legs get heavy/form drops off so that it pushes me thru to the finish line without walking! Last year I ran in the Nike Invincible Run v.2. Was super comfy but wanting to see if there’s a better shoe out there for me. Perhaps with some pop and more cushion, so I’m open to a plate and higher foam (40-50mm). New Balance appear to have a strong range of cushioned and/or plated shoes for half marathon distance. But which one for a big guy like me?! Or is the Invincible Run a shoe I should stick with?

Still need to get some more miles but so far Hyperion max 2 is great for faster running but definitely wouldn't be my choice for a superblast replacement - it's a little too firm and aggressive for me for that. really love your reviews (esp. this one), the work you put into them is incredible -- a quick question if you happen to read this: assuming budget is not an issue is there any reason why you would want to go with the 1080v13 vs the Balos? (The 1080 is my current daily driver but with almost 800kms I'm looking to replace it, and I hesitate between a fresh new pair or just get the Balos when it's out 🤔) Cheers from Belgium 🧇🍺
@supwell5 ай бұрын
If you like the 1080 you'll prob like the balos as well. I do think the 1080 will have better durability given that the balos uses foam on most of the bottom instead of rubber. Also the balos is very soft - maybe even softer than the 1080 so keep that in mind! It's fun but for most people I'd suggest the more v5 as a 1080 replacement. It's more stable and a little easier on the feet/ankles because of that vs the balos - also cheaper by a good bit in the US

Yeah they always launch in super bright colors. But they dropped a few more muted color ways of the skyward x recently and have added some less aggressive colorways

Embarrassed to wear in public? They're running shoes. Lose the ego. You should be more embarrassed at the fact that you give so much weight to how you think others perceive you for something so insignificant.

New Balance SC trainer V2 is terrible for me.. Will avoid V3 like the plague.

It's hard to even watch this with how bad you say it is. Lol. Super disappointed this shoe is so firm and not exciting.
