Quintessential Commander is a Singapore based Magic the Gathering EDH Commander gameplay series where we just want to have fun playing MTG together, joking and laughing around. We aim to produce high-quality, entertaining and fast-paced gameplay videos that will make you LOL.
We're playing with the new precons from March of the Machine (MOM), the latest Magic the Gathering set! It's filled with phyrexians and heroes, and the commanders we're playing today are Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy, Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos, Kasla, the Broken Halo, and Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener.

When you play planechase, don't use the planar die that WOTC gives you, as it is weighted on the blank sides due to them not having any carve outs. It doesn't seem like it would do much, but it really does make the die rolls not properly random, and more likely than it should be to hit a blank side.

The Planechase cards certainly add a chaotic element to the game haha Gabriel playing a Phyrexia deck is like a storyline continuation from the last set episode xD

I would've liked to see all of you show but also talk a bit about what and why you upgraded what you did. It would be interesting to see how the players would distribute that 100 dollar budget. But also how different your line of thinking would've been. For example, I can imagine the Brimaz deck be able to get quite an overhaul with it, many eggs being cheap and all.

The Norns seedcore would not have faded away… the idea of it is to add planes and planes and if you roll a chaos you get all the abilities of all the planes your on. It’s like Norns invasion in march of the machines in real time. Great game overall!

Access Denied CANNOT target itself (spells are never valid targets for themselves), so Elesh Norn was the only valid target which existed for it. As a result you shouldn't have copied it at all. The result is the same as the outcome you got though! :)

Gabriel already had lethal at 14:05 due to the Shalai and Halar and the Plane Stensia. Together they create a loop where Gabriel could have killed everyone lmao

because of the condition that counterspells cannot target themselves and Glimmervoid states "copies that spell for each spell the spell could target" it would not be copied to begin with since there was only one legal target being Ellish Norn. So effectively in a sense it was played correctly since the end result was the same as it should've been.

Honestly thankful that you guys didn’t use the knights precon for this episode, its the least interesting and most linear to see upgrade paths for. These decks are super fun and interesting to watch!

Wait, so at 16:15, the Return to Nature + Glimmervoid Basin should technically target all cards possible with its 3 choices? So it should also exile all graveyards and destroy all enchantments as well, I think.

No, the mode that is chosen is copied, so only the one that is chosen. In mortify's case it only has one mode which can target both enchantments and creatures. Least, that's what we figured.

Yeah pretty sure when you cast a spell with multiple functions, you declare which choice you’re choosing. Then, if you copy the spell, the copy is whatever choice your chose

No, because Return to Nature is a modal spell, which requires a choice to be made when cast. The copies must all copy the same choice as well

Not to be the typical nitpicking person in the comment but when Gabriel had the Shalai copy with Stensia plane out technically he should have won on the spot as Shalai trigger again cause Stensia count non-combat damage too, It was fun to see him pass over a combo, but It's common as few player use planechase regularly

Stensia specifically triggers only when a creature does damage for the first time each turn though, so I think it doesn’t work?
