Lil puff of black smoke. Tuned perfectly I’d say. If it’s pouring black smoke “rolling coal” you’re wasting money and losing power. Great video. Awesome Trucks.

you can only burn so much fuel cleanly before EGT's get way too much along with cylinder pressures. I watched a video from bruce wilson and he said the reason why diesel engines roll so much coal is also to help keep EGT's down. if you try to burn cleanly. you risk burning valve and cracking the cylinder heads. or worse. thats the reason why alot of BIG power diesel engines blow up when they run clean. your are NOT supposed to do it that way. its too much pressure for the cylinder heads to handle

Curious observation....I saw flatbeds, quickdraws, grain, van, dump, lowboys....etc trailers. Didn't see any livestock? We run those speeds routinely...even 2 and 3 deep. (maybe longer but I can only state my own experience) Not saying it's any better than the brothers in this video. We use the excuse of "living cargo that needs to get to it's destination" if we ever get pulled over and most the time it works ok. Ha! But yes...I absolutely love the appreciation for the craft and showing the willing public examples of what a life dedicated to something looks like. Thank you for the recognition...

I was merging onto I-74 north just outside Peoria, IL, when about 5 NASCAR team tractor trailers where coming by. It was about 1 in the afternoon. I followed those trucks, and they were all running 80-90+. In fact, some owner operators joined the high speed roll. I followed them all the way up to Moline, IL where I lived. Who knows how long they were running, but I cruised with them the 140 miles. This was about 12 yrs ago.

A lot of trucks used to do that pre technology. In Australia, 200kph plus across the Nullabor plane in the old days, that was a W model Kenworth 475 Cummins, express parcel freight, light load. Drove a western star with a Detroit Silver 92 and 15 speed overdrive Fuller Roadranger, geared to 158 km/24hr, used to get going, no worries. Perth to Darwin a Kenworth W model used to haul 3 trailers of general freight and was capable of near 160 kph out on the flat, local legend that one. Mate had a big fibreglass cab Atkinson, old 350 Cummins Spicer Spoiler 14 speed, would haul 2 trailers, 40 footers, flat tops, general from Perth up north, 140 kph easily. Not hard then, just takes a bit of distance to wind them up 😁
@shanonhoweth26592 ай бұрын
Any truck can do it if it's got the right gear set up. Example- 500hp Detroit, 13spdOD, 3.58 rear gear on 22.5 tires. This is my set up and it does 112mph at 2100rpm. Now I wouldn't run it like that for long periods of time, but it'll hit the mark...
@mikepeters93892 ай бұрын
I used to drive a '06 Pete 379 that would do over 100 mph loaded at 80,000 lbs. 500 hp C-15 Acert Cat, 13 speed Eaton trans, 3.73 rear end. It could cruise like that all day if you had the cojones.

give me my 1999 pete with 750 hp 18 speed pulling 129 thousand lbs. I didn't look as nice, but I would of smoked them all... one thing I learned quickly in the business... you make sacrifices in this business when buying or upgrading big trucks... few have the money to look great and haul ass... most need to choose one or the other...my Pete could pull a 6 percent grade loaded at 129 thousand lbs. at 50 mph and had to hit the breaks at the top of the grade for a sharp curve... only problem was 2.5 MPG ... I wasn't payin for the fuel and the boss was happy the loads got there so fast... just sayin
