Hey everyone!
This was just a little something I wanted to experiment with, I recorded footage for the 100 shmup bosses video simultaneously with this project so that'll be out in a day or two. There are no repeat games in either of these videos.
These are all my own recorded clips.
Also, I did my best to keep all the different games at an even volume but it's tricky getting it perfect so be cautious since some games may be slightly louder.
The vid is slightly longer than 5mins due to titles cards used at the beginning and end of the video and also milliseconds after each 3s clip which obviously add up. Trimming precisely 3 seconds is not the most feasible since my editor only zooms in so much.
See the very bottom of the description for the games list which I whipped together after the fact (from a glance) so one or two title slip-ups may occur. Additionally, some of these games have an alternate title which I'm not including here. I'm also not doing timestamps for 100x 3s clips because that's absurd.
Anyway, enjoy the video covering 100 Nintendo Switch shmups and thanks for checking this out!

Thanks for checking this out Nook! It's wild because there are many more than the ones shown here. I could easily do another one hundred (not sure if I could hit 300 total but definitely 200 and a bit).

Well, since Nintendo can’t seem to make a shmup genre for these games to live in all by themselves, I would love a list of names for these games. Even if it’s just in the description and it’s out of order. Without the name to search, some of them will never be found. Love the video, though!

Yeah man, I'm still astonished Nintendo hasn't put arcade shooters into a category - even if some of the lines were blurred, at least people would have access to the bulk of the games and some questionable ones that may or may not fit the category best. I'll put the list in the description either today or tomorrow so everyone can see what the games are. Thanks for checking this out!

I remember when the wii virtual console was like the only way to play Gleylancer and how exciting that was. Now is a very good time if you like shmups and own a Switch.

Hey man, thanks for watching this! I didn't even know what shmups were until 2018 and it's been a riveting journey seeing how explosive the Switch is with this genre. As for Gleylancer, I'd like to actually get around to playing that at some point. Doing this project has been a refreshing reminder of how many great titles are at my fingertips even though I haven't been prioritizing variety these days.

84 if I didn't lose track halfway through! Granted, I haven't played all of those or remember every name, but kind of know them. Some thanks to channels like yours! :D (like that GB-style game you loved, "Strikers something") Btw, what game is shown at 0:46? It reminds me of that shmup inside a Zelda-like game, but I don't think it's that one. PS. Great idea for a video. But now I want to play so many shmups at once!! Aaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! XD
@Shmuptopia
@Shmuptopia 2 жыл бұрын
Solid! 84 is pretty high. I think you're referring to Bridge Strike at 0:46, the one where the boats are being gunned down by the jet. And the GB style one is Thunder Striker - I really enjoy that game and the dev is working on a horizontal one which will be cool! Thanks for checking this out SPM! And I know what you mean, jumping into some of these for a few minutes each was insane and now I want to clear a ton of then haha

@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
Hey, Gavin - great question! That's a pretty tricky one. If someone's put together a list, I'm not sure where it is. With hundreds of shmups on Switch at this point, it'd be pretty wild gathering that info or checking each game. Congrats on the vertical screen though! It's been a while since I've played a Cave shmup but I wouldn't be surprised if those had state. Psyvariar Delta might, pretty sure Crimzon Clover does too. Danmaku Unlimited 3 comes to mind as well.

@@Shmuptopia Thanks! I've been working on Ikaruga but although I really enjoy shmups I think I may not be that good at them. I see you have alot of 1cc videos how do you play? with an arcade stick or d-pad?
@Shmuptopia
@Shmuptopia Жыл бұрын
@@jasp2003 Ikaruga is serious business so congratulations on tackling that one! To be honest, I would’t focus on whether or not you’re good at these games. They are designed to be exceedingly challenging and we all need to start somewhere on our journey of progression. If you keep enjoying them and commit to learning and improving, you’ll be better in no time. For what controller type I use - it depends on the game. For retro shmups, I often use dpad. Otherwise I use arcade stick. Let me know if you have any other questions about anything controllers or shmups and I’ll see what I can do to help!
