Note: this video focuses on titles that (a) were not released on the TurboGrafix-16 (and thus were "Japan Exclusive") and (b) are playable even if you cannot read Japanese. So, you won't see any RPGs in this list.

I was in Japan in 1990 I saw in my neighbourhood a boy playing some shoot em up pc engine game and he wrote his score on note book to show in school challenge friends to compete for that score. Just like today we do in PUBG like how many kills stuff like that😅. Video gaming culture in Japan is seriously way ahead of its time. This was the time when devs experiment different types of gameplay and guess what many companies nowadays taking references of old Japanese games.

Awesome! Far too few videos on exactly this topic out there. (Re)discovering the PC Engine has been great :) Thanks for putting in all the work to piece this together!

hya there gary, my man, i'm here to say that you're awesome as always and that i have a suggestion: a video compilation with famicom disk system games, no, i'm not talkin about famicom games, i am talkin about famicom disk system games, famicom disk system is an enhancement of the original famicom console that have games in disk format

Ah, good idea. However, I've sort of already done that. In the two "NES Games That Never Left Japan" videos on this channel, there are quite a few entries that are actually from the Famicom disk system - so some good exposure there. Check them out if you haven't already! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJO4oXyNfcelpsU kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHmUdYF3n7SGoNk

Cool Patreon Steamkey this time! It's a scary first-person adventure set in the Algerian desert called AMNESIA: REBIRTH. I love how the loading screen starts with the message "This game should not be played to win. Immerse yourself in the world and the story. Fear and darkness are your enemies." I tend to really enjoy a lot of games where "winning" or "completing the game" is not the goal. Guess I'm the opposite of the "achievement/trophy hunter" gamer. Cheers, Gary! And thanks for this 20-minute video, linking so many cool PCE games together! I love how you concentrate on the ones that non-Japanese speakers can derive some enjoyment from. One of the most interesting consoles, and so much of the best stuff got stuck in Japan back then...
