In Japanese that vise stand would be called Gan-Jo (頑丈, がんじよう).

Its really not this cheap to the public i only get the deals because my buddy that works there hooks it up👍🏻

Heating the metal before applying such a finish helps get the moisture out of the pores of the metal and let it burn in a little for better protection.

Looks fantastic . Penetrol is good stuff . It's meant as a oil paint additive . helps paint flow out better etc. Sure looks great on that vise . Absolutely prevents rust . last a long long time . great job !!!!!!

Great stand build man! I used penetrol once before without heating a vise and I think it didn’t come out as nice as yours. I think heat helps it get a little darker too. Nice work!

I am soooo envious! I would not be able to leave that outdoors! Anyway, I am a new sub and would love to learn (step by step) how you tear down, refinish and lube old vises. Also most of us don’t know how to weld. What welder do you own and can you recommend it? Thanks in advance! Ray
@Mexashop1 Жыл бұрын
I recommend the Lincoln mig welder with gas bottle i like the cheap stick welders to start as well, you just gotta put some time into it and you’ll get the hang of it👍🏻 good luck!

Can i ask why u didnt just leave the axle attached when you bought it?
@Mexashop1 Жыл бұрын
Good question! because you cant purchase train parts unless you are the goverment and the only way to buy them is as scrap metal so they had to cut it before i can take it out of the yard
@garyjones25824 жыл бұрын
I always wondered how heavy a train wheel is.. Did by any chance did you weigh it separately? Great video M.S... You need a custom tag for your truck " Viseman".. lol.. Reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer accidentally received the tags for his car that said, "Assman"... lol.. Have a great day Viseman...

Never heard of a "railroad vise stand" before, so I looked it up. Yours looks just like the design shown here: tinyurl.com/y7bbu8pb Also, you said the vise itself is a "railroad vise." What do you mean by that? Thanks for sharing, and, of course, awesome job.
