This is the imperialist mindset that most Russians have. And people tend to believe that "how I think is also how others think". True only to some extent. That the current imperialistic hubris of Russia and China coincides with the isolationist hubris of the US is what makes the world very dangerous all of a sudden. Two totalitarian dictatorships with their minions (Iran, North Korea, a few more on the doorstep) seeking expansion and having an already isolated and brainwashed population supporting almost anything is a combination that will lead to WW3 if there is no counterweight to act as deterrence. Sadly, the "make America great again" republicans who are keen to give up the US greatness by killing its alliances are the enablers of Russia and China.

Sadly their women in Russia and China will do whatever it takes to bag an American male just to get out of their countries. Have first hand experience in both countries. Embarrassing to be in a social group with your husband when these women will openly flaunt their sexuality especially in Russia. All the expat wives were ignored and every party, the women would only attend if us wives were not invited. Office parties are an example. Reality completely polar opposite to this interview.

I’m so impressed with the Russian sense of self-importance, eg.: “with China we would rule the world” or “America wants our resources” or “America wants to destroy us”. I don’t think Russians realize how irrelevant Russia is, how absent from the American consciousness, how there are no resources that Russia has that are of any value to America which is the world’s largest oil producer. And China? Russia won’t rule the world with China. Russia is becoming a mere resource colony of China. There are American states with larger economies than Russia. One American politician described Russia as “A gas station with nuclear weapons.”. And now Russia can’t even sell its gas in the West, and China is demanding very low prices to buy it. Russia is screwed.

As an American i believe the vast majority (90%+) of us would prefer friendship and trade. You can be different than us, just respect your neighbor's boundaries which means accepting defeat in the cold war and an end to the age of empire. Help us protect international shipping lanes, befriend your neighbors. It's obvious why all the former Soviet republics near Europe prefer becoming more European. Just go home from all of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova, and stop threatening Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and things will be fine. Reality is far different than you think.

For all of the billions of dollars in goods, equipment and funds that we provided them gratis, and for all the billions of dollars that we PAID for ruzzian oil snf other minerals over the last 110 years, they still think that we are trying to "steal" something from them.

Different countries have different curricula and emphasize history differently. In US history focuses on the positives US did, in RF history does the exact opposite and picks the negatives of what US did only. Probably the guy was referring to the business connections before the war and into it. That could be spun to mean US supported Hitler, even if it was private wealthy individuals, not the federal government. Just guessing.

The lack of history knowledge by your average Russian is scary. The USSR and China actually had a military conflict over borders in 1969. It wasn't until 2008 that then Russia and China resolved that conflict. The US sent over 10 billion in aid to the USSR to fight the Nazis. The Cold War started because the USSR occupied Eastern Europe. The US tried to normalize relations starting with Yeltsen. Look at how many American companies were in Russia prior to 2022.

Similarly, approximately 10 million ethnic Russians live in Ukraine. Like several other post-Soviet states, Russia and Ukraine were part of the USSR until 1991. Consequently, people of Ukrainian and Russian descent moved freely across the now non-existent border. During the USSR era, millions of Russians fled the communist regime until the end of the Cold War. Now, millions more continue to flee. When such a substantial number of citizens are fleeing, one begins to wonder if there's something fundamentally wrong with the country.

Before you conduct similar survey first you will have to put all those populations in similar to russia conditions. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. Will you ask Americans if they should be ally with USA or China? Or you will ask Germans about USA vs China? Ofc Germans would choose USA but not because they are smart or they are restitent to propaganda, but because every single on of them are lucky to be born in a country whose government would partner with "right" side. Their choice is already determined by outer factor. It is not really about propaganda this time. I live in Russia and I'm against my government, but despite my sympathy to US, I would think twice before choose US. I would actually prefer to choose none of them. The fact that my president is crazy old man that made terrible stuff doesn't make USA automatically a friend to Russian population. It is our fault in all things we have done but we are not friends with US and won't be in the next 50 years no matter what happens next. We won't be friends with Ukraine, Europe no matter what as well. It sucks to be villain, but we can't simply get away with that, there will be consequences. So yeah, at this point, USA are enemy to us, so are we to them, Putin is enemy too and China ... doesn't look too bad. It is not USA fault, or EU fault, but this is what it is.

It is actually from Aristotle who highlights 'good' and 'bad' versions of any form of government. Basically a 'good' dictatorship is in fact the best form of government. If you have one extremely capable and competent leader who can make all decisions unbiased and acts only in the interests of the people- it is the best. In his next breath (and the part the Russian textbooks leave out), after saying it is the best possibly hypothetical form of government, Aristotle says it must be avoided at all costs, because it *ALWAYS* decays into corruption and then tyranny (which is the 'bad form' of dictatorship). He then goes on to say Democracy is the 'worst' of the good forms of government because it is so cludgey and difficult to get things done, but then recommends it as the best government anyway because even in its bad form it is relatively good for the populace, whereas dictatorships and republics are both atrocious for the people in their bad forms.

People from the real democratic world will watch this episode and be utterly bemused by the (how to say it without being rude?) lack of understanding of the US, and more importantly, the historical ignorance. As a person from the "West" my response to the question you pose would be an instant rejection of a country that was ruled by a dictator. Those countries that actually choose to be dictatorships (in an election for example) are for me irredeemably ignorant as a collective. I also bet that most westerners will feel sorry for the people who choose to live that way - as a form of self-imposed cruelty.

At the time of the USSR, there was an anecdote in Poland that would make many Russians today happy... Now it was like this: A Pole one day found a lamp, picked it up and as it was dirty he rubbed it, out came a genie who told him that it was a magic lamp and as he had released him from inside the lamp, it granted him 3 wishes. The Polish man thought and asked for the 1st wish that China would invade Poland and leave, for the 2nd the same thing and for the 3rd the same. The genie was confused and asked why he had chosen that wish and the 3 same ones. The Pole replied that by invading Poland and leaving 3 times, they would at least have to pass through Russia 6 times... And that's exactly what will end up happening with China, it will simply colonize Russia with cheap product factories. in exchange for the resources you need. In fact, China was never an ally of Russia, quite the opposite, they closed themselves off and when they started to open up, it was the capitalist model. Even during the Cold War, the USA was the one who supplied cereals to the USSR when there was a shortage and it was the USA who supplied weapons during the Second World War. But it seems that most Russians really like dictatorships... it's a shame, a country that could be modern and with a quality of life prefers regimes from the middle ages.
