According to evictionlab just over the past 12 months alone, we have seen 83,000 tenants kicked out on the street and evicted and over 1 million eviction filings during the same time.. Here's the kicker, that's only across 34 cities and 10 states that they track. So this only accounts for roughly 1/5 of the potential eviction, filings and people losing their homes as we speak. I wonder what kind of effect this is going to have on the economy and the housing market...

I predict a housing crash due to people buying homes over asking price, lacking equity if prices decline further. Foreclosure becomes likely if they can't afford the house, and selling won't yield profits. With anticipated layoffs and rising living costs, many individuals may face this situation.

If people work full time and can't afford rent and become homeless, how are they supposed to get back on their feet? They're already on their feet. Get a better job? Who's going to do their job, wealthy people?? If an essential low income job doesn't pay enough to cover housing, then it is a serious economic problem.

Most people I know make $120,000+ annually. Rising costs are delaying retirement dates and many want to sell their homes to use their equity to buy a smaller home cash. Personally, my bills have risen $700 per month since 2021. My coworkers with larger homes and families have had bills rise by $2,000+ per month. I listen to Peter Schiff and this channel's advice so I bought a small mobile home a few years ago. I budgeted for a quarter of what I make annually. I'm eating the rising costs by working more overtime and buying store brands so far. I stay in a mobile home park. My coworkers thought I was either crazy or had bad credit budgeting for so little two years ago but they're all downsizing now. Most used to buy a new car every year or 2. Many have since traded down or bought older used vehicles. I still wear shirts from 5 to 10 years ago. I've found being cheap the best way forward. Even when I made a quarter of what I do now, I got a roommate to stay budgeted for much less. Now is the worst I've seen because the rise in monthly expenses is what a weekly check once was. After tax that's near what the average weekly check is locally. It's like watching the water levels slowly rise and many in my area are finding themselves underwater.

His example is him trying to game the basic economic reality and making them vulnerable to others blackmailing him. If YOU are in compliance and a health and safety problem isn't resolved govt has reporting options. Sales break leases, always will, and every renter knows this. It is the trade off of lower cost than ownership. Nobody is owed anything that takes SOMEONE ELSE'S LABOR OR VALUE TO PROVIDE. PERIOD. Get over it.

And Cali voted not to long ago to shut down their one remaining nuclear power plant. This is my #1 Reason why I think EV is a scam. It's estimated converting to all EV will require the addition of 3x current electric generation capacity, so we wind up with a total of 4x current output. If our Elites are really serious about EV, we should be building new generation plants like there is no tomorrow, but we're not.

1. It helps to know, Emergency Responders hate EV's! Nobody wants to get electrocuted rescuing you. 2. Even if visually OK, you can still have problems - the big batteries don't deal well with the large shocks of an accident. The odds of an eventual battery fire just went up. 3. People who live in houses have heavy duty electrical service installed and can charge overnight. This is obviously not an option for renters. With gas/diesel it takes just a few minutes to fill up. Who wants to deal with it taking hours out of their day to charge up? 4. Check your homeowners insurance - they may not like you parking the EV in the garage. Insurers are allergic to the possibility of a battery fire burning down the house. 5. Range anxiety is still a thing. At minimum, I travel hundreds of miles to visit family. For many family members, it is thousands. I like having my own car so I'm not dependent on relatives for transport. And it makes leaving easier as well - nobody has to drive you to the airport. Dealing with all those hours of charging, coming and going? Nope, that's not happening.

Why do right wingers love to live in the stone ages and refuse change so much? EV's ARE the future weather you like it or not. I remember when cell phones first came out. So many people saying they would never own one, LOL. How did that work out? Did you resist the microwave oven and cable tv as well? I'll bet your great grandparents were the ones saying they would never get rid of their candles and kerosene lanterns and were resisting electricity and in home plumbing.

Same story here.. wife rented the same place for 9 years. I moved in around year 7. I notice issues with mold and water damage in the bathroom. I notified the landlord thinking it was the right thing to do so he could repair his property. They didn’t renew our rental agreement and put us an a month-to-month. Gave us 7 months to move out due to selling the condo. Turns out they made repairs and still rent the unit.

You may not be aware, that EVs not only have a higher ins. premium, but their resale value has cratered. So if you got an EV for MSRP or even below MSRP but on installment, and you want to sell 2-3 years after, you will be upside down, you'll owe MORE than the EVs market/trade-in price. This is today's REALITY and FACT. With EVs (if you really want it) the current way to go is leasing. I'm not even going into in detail the other pesky problems such as reliability(!), range, charging time, charging anxiety (on a longer trip), convenient charging network (lack of), charging cost - other than at home; lack of charging ability in condos and apartments' garages and on the street; the EV fires; wearing out tires and brakes (due to the high weight); possible restriction on charging or on the car's usage due to electricity shortage (CA brownouts, rolling blackouts); house insurance issues if parked inside the house's garage (fire hazard) - this is new, and is just evolving. And this is still not all - there IS MORE...

ICE vehicle prices are up dramatically to cover the BILLIONS in losses on EVs - so ICE buyers are paying for the EV folly. Same w/ insurance, EVs have raised the cost of everyone's insurance because they cost so much more to fix. Plus EVs burn through tires, JD Power stated that Rivian tires can last only 6000 miles. That tire dust means EVs pollute more than ICE vehicles. Also, EVs contribute NOTHING for road maintenance even though they cause more road wear because they weigh so much more.

It was one thing when I wanted to move on my terms, but now the script has flipped and I’m under pressure to find another rental in a shi**y market. I’m fortunate that they are working with me bc I have been a stellar tenant, but that only goes so far for me. Listing goes live May 1. I hope I can find an affordable SFH to rent and get moved before strangers walk through where I live. This market does not cater to single income households and Jacksonville has SO many dangerous neighborhoods. I’m ready to dig a hole and crawl in it.

An interesting note on charging stations in corporate parking decks: Fire hazard Years ago these were located on the ground floor in multi story parking decks - probably because the electric line were easier and cheaper to access. A But a lithium fueled car fire is a big deal for fire companies' inability to access the fire in a closed space, neverminded extinguishing a self-oxidized fire. Such a file could damage that deck and many other cars (if not just stain them with soot). Now I see that all charging stations are located on the top of the decks in open-air places. I suppose that fire codes should be retroactively enforced to update old decks. Also, I wonder if all EV parking should be restricted to upper floors of the deck or in regular open-air lots.

Meanwhile there was no moratorium for landlords, they still had to pay their mortgages for their rental properties.

I agree. I do believe there needs to be stricter regulation in place limiting how much a tenant's rent can be raised every year. Also, a unit becoming available can't be priced at more than 10% higher than the previous tenant's rent or something along those lines to prevent land lords from not renewing a tenant's rent in order to get someone into the unit at a price way higher.

The idea of “sanctuary” cities started like 40 years ago. “Illegals” are not causing the problem of unaffordable rentals. The problem has been massive double digit percentage increases in rent since the pandemic paired with lackluster income gains as you hVe previously reported. Policy makers need to focus on this.

I never thought I would have to but I just evicted some tenants who hadn't paid the rent for 4 months. It was not a good experience on either side, I am selling up and just building cheap, affordable housing, no more landlording for me. It will only get worse and if you don't have laws to protect your investment from this scenario, then sell up now because the stress is NOT worth it.
