hi martin. We used to set the points with the flywheel on but im sure you sorted it when you refitted the backplate. I had a swag of Villiers engines on my go carts and from memory the points were 12thou and the plug 25

You might want to re-think the hot-melt glue holding the coil in place. As the unit heats up, the glue will re-liquify and no longer remain bonded to the coil.

Almost nice simple things to work on Martin wouldn't kick yourself about the back plate we all make little mistakes. I love the sound of them when there running. When I did the seagul I ran it over with the drill she's a 1958. Cracking little engine looking forward to seeing what you do with it next.👍

Sometimes it can be very frustrating when it's nearly there. When I finish the Honda Stream I am going to revisit the Mobylette engine. The compression was only 40psi although it did run. I have ordered a new crank case and Airsal cylinder and piston. Hopefully I can get that running perfectly. Take care, Jeff
@retrorestore2 жыл бұрын
Yes, 40 psi is a bit low Jeff
@DiecastPowderCoating2 жыл бұрын
@@retrorestore Yes not too good Martin. I should have completely stripped the engine to start with. The bearing were a bit rumbly so the seals could have dried out as well.

Maybe that bracket is there to run the fuel line or that cable through so it doesn't move about.

Make sure the valves are free the intake and exhaust opening/closing. Then the valve springs lost their tension.

hi Martin did you get it running in the end ?

@TheTwistedStone2 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you have soldered the ht lead direct to coil instead of using that copper plate arrangement ?
@retrorestore2 жыл бұрын
The ht leas connector is spring loaded for the vibration and would probably snap if you soldered it direct to the coil.

Hope you can get that bad boy running again. If you do get it running again I wonder how it will run on today's fuel. Since back in the old days it ran on leaded fuel.

I don’t think the hot melt glue is a good choice in this application. It may get pretty warm when you get it running and go soft. I used it on the petrol flap hinge on my car and it came off when the sun was on it. No nails or similar might be better. Hope you resolve this. Watching with interest.
