My great grandmother was indigenous (Choctaw is all I know) and still sang the songs of her youth she learned from her grandmother..... it may not be exactly the same but the spiritual connection to my GreatNana was so powerful 😮😊... she taught me so much and lived to be 100 years old.... I was almost 30 when she transitioned so I had a long time with her which most of my friends didn't have that chance....DL aka MsDL411 TheModernShaman

Really amazing opportunity to share these cultural experiences directly from generation to generation. I hope the indigenous people are offered modern recordings of these to more easily share them and continue the story 🖤

I hope that these are being recorded while they're playing. Perhaps there's a chance to clear up some of the recordings so they aren't so scratchy and could be played so the tribes can learn songs, etc. Very cool. I wish I had recordings of my grandparents and parents. I'm not indigenous, but to hear them again, Wow.

How amazing! True History was preserved. This is wonderful fir the Indian Nations. Thank you for sharing. My husband inherited his grandfather’s cylinders and player. Wondering if I should share with some museum. No Indian chants, but plenary of the early 1900’s.

Helping to revive as many lost languages of Native American tribes would be such a huge step in restoring the enormous debt that they’re rightfully owed, due to the treatment they received during the establishment of this country! You can see how much it means to these gentlemen & I’m so incredibly happy for them! The treatment of Native American tribes during the formation of this country, is itself a tragedy that does NOT get the attention or senses of repentance, solace, contemplation, respect, etc., that it rightfully deserves. Imho, it’s right there w slavery as being a blight on our nation’s history.

What's really sad is the group of people who was trying their best to wipe out all traces of your people and culture are the last ones to hold your peoples valued languages and songs/music. I'm always well aware daily that as an African American I walk on Native American Soil. In spite of all my people went through I also respect Native Americans. Respect.....
@socialjusticejewelry Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. The languages are gone because of the schools that separated children from their parents and culture, forbid them to speak these languages, and thought that these people's would vanish. Glad these Native Americans are still here.

@@ngonsainti Every single librarian, archivist, genealogist, museum director and historian say it. We all want all records, regardless of race and background, digitalized and made available to the public. The problem is it's expensive and time consuming, regardless of whether its American Indian history or not.

These recordings are beyond priceless! But are they using a mechanical system to read them??? You don't need a mechanical system to read them!!! Each time you read the recording in this manner you run the risk of wear, tear and damage. Please devise an optical (non-contact) system reader. It would take me just a few hours/days to build a prototype. I expect I could even extract data from it that your mechanical reader misses.
