100 year old sings w/Orchestra

Polly Roesch sings "Let There Be Peace on Earth," and "Silver Bells," with Karen Lynne Deal and the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Polly turned 100 years old on December 6, 2010. Her sister, Esta, who was in the audience, turned 103 on December 9, 2010.

Some people can sing or because they are musical, some because they have been given a divine gift from God. I would have loved to hear her voice in its prime because those top notes were clear as a „Silver“ Bell and her pitch better than many young singers.

Well, I think, this old woman was absolutely fantastic! An absolutely great voice! 100 years and an so absolutely fantastic singer... meanwhile I noticed, Polly Roesch died in July 2016. God will have opened his gates for her! May she rest peacefully and sing as lead in the angels choir!

A remarkable beautiful voice, wonderful breath control, very unusual for someone to sing so well at 100 with such a strong clear voice and breathing correctly. I remember Dame Hilda Bracket from 'Hinge and Bracket' was asked "how do you reach those top notes?", her reply was a simple one, "i sometimes think i need a ladder to reach those top notes!" but she did reach them, very easily and without a ladder! Read this lady (Polly Roesch) passed to the world of spirit aged 105! a lovely opening song 'Let there be peace on Earth', a song with a great message, especially for today's world.

an old Italian school. in average 9 years of learning with a teacher of this school.in America they still are.not the Pavarotti school.a different one. she sings with a head resonator so doesnt need to think about the breath.

Never underestimate or argue with our elderly, or anyone else's (outside your family, of course). Seemed to me she was a bit nervous at first but the more she sang the more confidence she got and the more confidence she got, the better she got and one would never have known that she was 100! High notes were great (and better than many a singer, today) and the fact that she remembered all the verses! Brava, Polly! Kudos to you and Esther.

Did I ever write anything negative on lovely Polly Roesch? Ask a classical singer what a vibrato is all about. Your tone is aggressive and irrespectful. P.R.'s performance is so astounding, moving and poignant. And the color of the voice is lovely, and she sings with great musicality and pathos. Did I ever criticize her singing? This closes the chapter with you.

Dear "operabilia": it is YOU who do not understand the meaning of "vibrato"!!! What you are talking about is a WOBBLE, which is a slow, undulation (if you know what THAT means) of the voice, which sometimes comes with age, but also in younger singers who have incorrect techniques and have abused their voices with wrong repertoire. A vibrato on the other hand is ESSENTIAL to the voice, otherwise it would sound like an audible laser beam! Understand now?
