100 YEARS OF EVA MARIE SAINT (Ep. 42)

This versatile, elegant actress had an incredible emotional range and left an indelible mark on the landscape of film during the Golden Age and beyond. July 4th marks the 100th birthday of this national treasure and in this episode we take a look at her extraordinary career. Happy Birthday Eva Marie! So many thoughts on this episode. It has been a while since I watched On The Waterfront as it is not my favorite genre. I was intrigued with your still and had to look up the young actor appearing on the left. Thomas Hanley had only two film appearances: Waterfront in 1954 and Hunting Season in 2011. This must be one of the longest hiatus spans in the industry : ) I watched Raintree County as often as it came on network tv. I love the antebellum triangle movies. Raintree County is up there with Jezebel and Gone with the Wind, in my book. Lastly, I have to just mention that my favorite Yves Montand movie is My Geisha with Shirley McClaine. Thanks for this episode.

Great to see this fantastic video! I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Saint in person several times at screenings in the L.A. area, and she was wonderful relating stories from her life and career. I also did a bit of correspondence with her, and as a result have a note and signed movie stills I treasure. I also have a tribute video to her on my channel. Happy Birthday to a great artist and person! As a P.S., regarding being dismissed by Josh Logan, Ms. Saint is in good company, as he also misguidedly would not consider Doris Day for the film of "South Pacific" because, according to his autobiography, she didn't sing at a party he went to, after Day had been a top recording star for over ten years, and a movie star in musicals for about ten. Great logic, Josh.

@@FromBeneathTheHollywoodSign I just finished a write-up/tribute to Saint in "That Certain Feeling" on my blog ("And Your Little Blog, Too"). It's a wonderful comedy-drama that deserves more mention, IMO. Excited for the Saint milestone on the 4th, and was so glad to see you guys address her big birthday! As a side note, Deborah Kerr actually won the NYFCC award for 1957, with Saint as runner-up, but I wish Eva had won, as she did get the other high recognition you mention, and was oh-so-close to that second Oscar nod, I believe.
