I was there for this celebration. I filled five albums with pictures. I also met Roy Chapin's granddaughter and her son. It was a splendid weekend.

The car I learned to drive in: 1951 Hudson Super Six with 3-speed transmission plus overdrive, AM radio, undercoating. Wet clutch, left hand lug nuts to secure wheels, wet air filter, antenna could be put down from inside to go through car wash. Great car. Dad sold it in 1966 with only about 89,000 miles on the odometer.

I've always loved Hudsons (my parents had two in the fifties) -- Great to see so many beautiful Hudsons owned by collectors! My favorite is the Hornet 51 to 54! My Dad had a Commodore 8 (1951) sedan and a 49 Super Six Coupe. I'm planning to go to the Hudson meet this year.

They ruled NASCAR in their day, but they weren't as tough on the competition as the mixer was on the music barfing in the street!

Great cars. A really enjoyable wander around a lot full of lovely old Hudsons - best viewed with the sound off though.

I agree with you whole heartedly. This is a nice video, but i lunged for the mute botton. I think maybe Benny Goodman, or Mel Torme would have been far far far more fitting.

styldsteel1 : Music is appropiate for the 1960s, but not apprpopiate, for th1950,s, when most of the Hudsons on display were manufactured. Thanks!

My father and later Step Father were both Hudson freaks. When my father died we had three Hudsons. My brother inherited my dad's 1953 Hudson, I believe it was a Hudson Wasp with two one barrel carbs on that 308 cubic inch flat six. It was a standard shift and used a wet clutch. I'll have to google it to remember the difference, but I helped replace it. As I recall it was much more difficult than replacing the clutch on a same year Ford or Chevy. I got the 1956 Hudson with the same flat six but it had a four speed Hydramatic Automatic Transmission and a two barrel carb. The '53 Wasp was slower than most cars from zero to about 50 mph, but it could out accelerate any other car (any car, any brand if both were running side by side) from a 60 mph Stomp. That's why I believe Hudson's dominated the first couple of years when NASCAR ran real stock cars. The lone exception was my '56 Hornet. The Hydramatic could still downshift to third at 60 mph which gave me a little bit of a edge. The '56 really didn't count though because it was really a Hash (a Hudson made by Nash). Later on about 1967, my Stepdad put a four speed Hydramatic in a '57 Chevy Hardtop with a 289 cubic inch V8 for me. Brings back memories

Everything they showed was from the early 50's. Not really a display of 100 years, although that may have been the name of the event. Hudson was founded by a Detroit department store owner, J.L. Hudson and the main Hudson factory and HQ was in Detroit. This, I guess, is why they chose Motown music (albeit from the 60's) . Being from Detroit; I apologize. :)

How about re-posting this with the stylish music of the swing era? The aesthetics of this music is more in-line with the design and sophistication of Hudson motor cars.

My parents had a 1950 Pacemaker 4 door sedan they bought new. They traded the Pacemaker for a new 1953 Hornet 4 door sedan. They kept the Hornet until 1958 when it was involved in an accident. Sadly they didn't have the Hornet fixed because the car was old and it was difficult to get a new fender and grill.

The music is great. I had a 47 coupe in 1961, and the music fits that time period. Also, If you see cars shows today, that beach music is ll they play.

The photos of the Great Hudsons are great but I can't say the same for the music. This is not the music that most Hudson fans grew up with. Try Frankie Laine's "Wild Goose" or "Humming Bird" or better yet "The Flight Of The Bumble Bee" that's as close to a Hornet or Wasps as I can get.

the Hudson 4 door was much better looking than the two door model and in my opinion the 54 was the best car of all. Maybe it was the first car I ever bought back in 1959. but the music is terrible.
