This reminds me of a real battle in the roman civil war, a small Roman garrison held a position against Pompejian archers. The hired greek archers were arguably the most skilled of their time and they shot 3000 arrows on one day, at the end of the day only one soldier was killed and the centurion survived with 120 arrowholes in his shield. Man, real romans knew how to defend against arrows.

Remember, romans uses wooden shields, it’s just the corner of the shield that is some times iron etc metal.

The Romans had a way of combating arrows by coming together and in large groups and spreading out and grouping together , then the front romans simply put there shields in front of the large group , while the rest of the large group put the shields above there heads , making the romans seem invincible to arrow fire over-head .

Slow down time fire rate stays the same or scales disproportionately. Archer unlimited arrows it would seem. Each one needed at least 30 arrows with near perfect 1 shot 1 kill accuracy. But really the first few lines did all the work. I think 200 or so archers would've annihilated these 5-6 legions. They're pretty much machine guns each one. Hilarious battle.
