Thanks Don. For my current qrp and digital needs, I think this is probably the best option with a fan dipole as you mentioned. I can always expand on that when I upgrade to Standard to get me QRO.🍻🤠

Thanks Donz. I really like the fan dipole I made. It worked quite well and was easy for me to deploy as in the V config. Good luck with it.

@don_n5skt Thanks Don, I'll be getting one in soon and want to set it up early next year. I was planning on going to go to Dayton but putting it on hold as my elderly mum is not too well. Looking forward to play with the HL2 and Thetis though. :)

Hiya Don - Great primer on the HL2 - they are great QRP SDR's and a superb panadapter for some of the other radios. I have a handful of them that I use for different projects. I also run a 7000DLE, Elad FDM-DUO, and too a lesser extent the 101D, Ailunce Hs2 and X6100. The HL2 has a 5W PA on board, with filtering being done on the N2ADR daughter board. The ANAN Hermes board you show is a single 14bit ADC from the ANAN10 series, and roughly 500mW only, no filtering., that they are selling as a board only. The filtering is on the 10W PA board that you showed. The 7000's, 8000's and Andromeda are Dual 16bit ADC's - with alot more filtering and alot more horsepower, with 100W PO min. and the newest 8000 is 500W. The Hermes Lite 2 is the best bang for the buck for a QRP SDR for sure! SDR Console is superb, as well as the Thetis version that support the HL2. The ANAN-7000DLE MKII page shows all the differences between the two - including all the filtering and I/O. So the HL2 is like $350 for the HL2 and N2ADR Filter board - and the comparable ANAN Hermes and 10W PA is closer to $600 - less the case in both cases. Still - the HL2 is one hell of a fun SDR to play with. I have an HL2 in a travel kit, and run another as the panadapter point and click GUI for my FTDX-101D when Im not using my ANAN7000DLE MKII.

Thanks for the update Tom. I did look at the manual for the 100D and it looks like it is a Hermes board with a 100W PA onboard. I know the 7000/8000/Andromedas are much better radios. Still I am VERY impressed with the Hermes and enjoy the radio quite a bit.

Is there a case for the Open HPSDR Hermes Can it do 11 meter receive/transmit?
@don_n5skt2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know. I have not tried it. I am not familiar with the Open HPSDR Hermes.

bad thing about the hermes lite 2 is how rarely it goes in stock. i knew i should have ordered one a couple weeks ago. but might be another 6 months before they come back in stock
@don_n5skt2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. I had thought they were never available but they do come up as Makerfabs gets parts.
