I am looking to travel to Western Australia for prospecting with a metal detector. What is the best time of the year to do this? I know it gets quiet hit downunder in summer. Thank you for your time.

I just started building my first sluice today, hoping to find enough gold to finance a gpx5000. South East NSW will be my hunting ground.

Good on ya mate. I built my first Sluice out of an Old Caravan, using the frame work and Tin lining. hope it works well for you. All the best Aussie.

Hey John, nice nuggets :) with that gold in the rock sample will you be crushing that to get the gold out ? If so can you make a video on how you get it out ?
@AussieBlokeProspector8 жыл бұрын
G'day Berticus, That specimen, I would not crush. If anything, I would drop it in acid so all that is left is the Gold Matrix. Having said that, because it contains around 5 Ounces or more, It may be worth more as a collectors item as it is. A light clean with acid would bring out the best colours...but then, some collectors won't even touch anything that has been near acid. Not quite sure which way I'll go. As for a video, I have many other specimens which I can crush which would make good subject material for such a topic. I'll see what I can do... Regards John

Cheers for the thumbs up. Some collectors want "all natural" Gold and won't buy nuggets dipped in acid etc.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am curious about your return on investment, equipment, travel costs plus time. Do you make profit through prospecting for gold or is it the lifestyle that keeps you doing it?
@AussieBlokeProspector8 жыл бұрын
If I was a single bloke, I would live in WA, and yes, I could make a living solely off the gold that I find...but I would have to work hard... bloody hard. It's more of a lifestyle choice with perks along the way.
