1000+ Hours in Pokemon Fire Red: Pokedex | Shinies | Items

I have been playing on the same Pokemon Fire Red save files since 2015. Since then I have put well over 1000 hours into the game. Most of that time involved soft resetting for shiny pokemon. I love this game as well as all the GBA pokemon games. Fire Red was my first one and holds a special place in my heart.

this is so awesome. i recently picked up my original firered cartridge again. it has about 300 hours on it and the save file is from when I was in elementary school 😵‍💫just finished filling the kanto dex and now im gearing up to complete the national dex and get the other star! this was an awesome video, cheers!

I love how easy it is to train too level 100 in firered and leafgreen. The high level trainers post game being in the 50s help alot.

@nostalgicnighthawk yeah the rebattle system in emerald sucks too so that doesn't help. Even rebattling wally takes forever. The league isn't that strong so it takes even longer. At least in ruby and sapphire the sky pillar has high level wild pokemon unlike emerald. And firered and leafgreen have the league going into the 70s in a rematch.

i finished my fire red with all pokemon caught about a year ago. took me 2-3 years to complete. After that i tranfsered all my pokemon to my pokemon pearl. And i got complete pokedex on that too. gen 3 and gen 4 are my favorite games😁😁. Also, very nice video, no annoying background music, chill voice. good game!

Man, your passion really shows here. It's really inspiring, and makes me want to do something similar in my current Emerald/FireRed runs so I can come out of it with a few strong teams for battle towers/post game. I remember going absolutely balls to the wall in Diamond/Platinum/SoulSilver back in the day. I had shinies on shinies because I did lots of RNG manipulation (but no actual hacking per se). I think the only real hacking I did was I used my Diamond as my "dumpster" game where I always gave myself infinite rare candies. breed/catch in Platinum/SoulSilver, raise in those games, then transfer over to Diamond to bump to lvl 100 so I could actually use the mons in battles. I couldn't imagine grinding them to 100 normally. I guess E4 and Red battles in HGSS could work but it felt like a time sink. lol

Really nice collection, there's something very cool about having all that progress on an original cartridge, even if it's just a personal challenge. As a teen I had a silver cartridge, was only 3 or 4 away from a full dex that I spent hundreds of hours in. As I had a neighbour with a Japanese parent, they'd often ask them to take their game to get event pokemon when home for work, which they'd then trade with me. One day while playing sat at our neighbour's poolside, their cat hit my hand and I dropped it into their swimming pool which killed the console and the cartridge, maybe as an adult I'd have taken it apart and cleaned it and maybe saved it but as a kid I just dried it with a hairdryer which may have resulted in it's death a lot more than the water, might be one of the few people to get that much progress while the cartridge battery was still working completely fine.

Loved the video, Im sure others have said this already but you can do the pomeg berry glitch to unlock the events on emerald, that can end of giving u deoxys, mew and I think it can get u to hatch celebi and jirachi! I did it myself and now I have a shiny deoxys and mew so really recommend it.

Currently doing a run through ruby at the moment and got me my shiny treecko after 3 uncatchable shiny pooches, and a shiny adamant natured Aaron after 878 repel trick encounters in the cursed granite cave (I was hunting Mawile and I spent 4 months 14 days there before I decided I needed a break for mental stability sake.) Gen 3's some of my favorite pokemon games ever and I am hoping to get a hold of a copy of fire red again just so I can reclaim my first ever shiny, and shiny fail in the cinnabar mansion (it was a shiny weezing that broke out of 4 ultraballs and exploded on me when I was 10)

It's truly admirable all the effort and dedication this man put into the game. Considering that nowadays it's very easy to hack the game and use emulators and programs to obtain shinies and Pokémon with perfect IVs without the need for grinding or spending hours, it's admirable and you can see the love he has for the game and Pokémon to dedicate so much to this. I was like that too when I was younger. In my Pokémon games, I used to grind and grind and use various legitimate methods to obtain shinies and Pokémon with perfect IVs. Congratulations! Good job.♥

I like that you haven't cheated or glitched any of the game, but there's some cool things you can get by glitching pokemon emerald and/or ruby and sapphire. If you're gonna use a computer program to get mew... It's worth mentioning that you can get a legit event mew (with the trade lock unlocked) using the Pomeg glitch as well as all the other events like southern island, ho oh and Lugia, and there's also a way to get the exclusive berries from the GameCube games

Not sure if you are still hunting for Larvitar but you can actually soft reset it in XD gale of darkness from Duking's trade. Definitely easier than the seavault canyon one.

Since you already beat XD you should do the in game trade for the 100% Shiny Larvitar. Soft reseting for that would be way faster than trying to get a random encounter off a 5% chance in sevault canyon.

@nostalgicnighthawk Yeah! Another nearly impossible to get gen 3 shiny you can find in XD is Gligar in the pokespots. The only way to get him otherwise is in the emerald safari zone extension where his catch rate is really really low. I plan on going for both of them once I get my shiny bulbasaur in leafgreen.

for me personally one of my fastest shinies i ever got was (ironicly) on emerald was restarting a new game in like february on a sunday, my thought was like "meh, couldnt hurt to try a shinylock on that gen" and on the very next day, while on a break at work while talking to some friends, out of nowhere my shiny mudkip appeard; after ~50 resets in total had just 2 hunts i can remember were faster (arcticuno on ultramoon with ~10 and a entei on the same game ~30 resets)

Is the dry battery thing only an issue with sapphire/ruby? I spent a very, VERY long time doing runaways in Emerald (with a dry battery) and currently have 4 shiny rayquaza, 1 shiny kyogre, and 1 shiny groudon! @@nostalgicnighthawk well, the reason I got 4 of them is simply that he’s my favorite. Initially, I wanted 1 for my omega ruby, 1 for Pokemon moon (which is the newest game I own), 1 for Pokemon bank, and 1 for any newer game I might decide to get later on down the road. At one point, I accidentally killed shiny kyogre and couldn’t for the life of me; find him again. This prompted me to restart the game from scratch. So once I restarted the game I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to catch my 4th shiny rayquaza. Like I said previously, this all took place over like a year and a half, so I had different ideas on what I wanted to do with my shinys. In the end I decided to just keep them all on omega ruby so I could have an entire team of O.P, shiny legends in a single game. Origin kyogre, origin groudon and a spam of rayquazas! Haha. Really like that shiny metagross you have by the way!

I am thinking about trying for a larvitar after my charizard (and then mewtwo). That’s wild about the Virizion! you can only catch him 2 days out of the week if I’m not mistaken? So if you save in front of him will it still be there on the other days? Also, was that doing run aways or soft reset?I haven’t tried hunting for shinys in any newer games yet. I’ve literally played my d.s lite so much, that you can see wearing in the plastic surrounding the direction pad and buttons! Hope you get the charizard soon! For Virizion in ORAS there was a portable that appeared once u found it. I dont fully remember... but it was was something like that. I think yea u need to save in front of the portal. That is when you know you played a lot haha. Ey there nothing wrong with buying another. Some people get rid of good condition ones for cheap! How did you soft reset for rayquaza and metagross? I thought Emeralds RNG was set from when you load the save file so you would always be hitting the same frames. Is there a workaround you used?

I did it in sapphire! Yea emerald soft resetting is weirdd. Ruby and sapphire are fine to soft reset but your battery cannot be dead

You will need to watch a lot of videos or look up forms online and use several games to get them all! I know you need emerald or like Gale of Darkness to get the johto pokemon. Emerald safari zone is the easiest if you do not have a game cube

My first ever game was pokemon Fire red and would reset the game so often. But about two years ago while resetting I got a trainer ID of 00001 and knew I could never reset the game again. Sadly I don't have the technical capabilities nor the old GBA's to trade between games so I'm solely stuck on what I can get within the game itself. (Which kind of sucks because you can't have both a gyarados and heracross with EQ with only 1 TM of it.) At least from what I've looked up and found.

Funnily though I have had some nice luck with getting things like lucky egg in 3 chansey encounters. And despite the roaming legends having terrible iv's every iv for suicune was the max possible it could be. (HP was 31) on top of bold nature. Still no shiny pokes, but tbf I've never bothered to hunt for any. I have been breeding movesets like wish vaporeon and so on though.

Rayquaza is the BEST. My favorite too! U need to first get to rayquaza which is after the 7th gym i believe? Then you save in front of rayquaza and just soft reset mannnny times until it appears. If you do that you need to ensure your battery is not dry in emerald. The battery is not terribly hard to replace if you need to, just be careful. Also in emerald there is a runaway trick to hunting rayquaza. I would just look it up on YT since that easier than explaining.
