$1000 Market Hunt Rhodes 🇬🇷

■ RHODES, GREECE: One of the best best preserved fortified medieval towns I've ever had the pleasure of visiting is located on the Greek island of Rhodes. An ancient marketplace which have been there since medieval days and possibly since the days of the Greek city states is still up and running today.
The market stretches for about a kilometre if you walk straight through it but if you decide to embark on a shopping side-quest in one of the many narrow alleyways of the Old Town you can add kilometres of shops to that total.
Obviously this was a market I was eager to make a shopping video in. My only dilemma was exactly which streets to go shopping in. I opted for staying on the main market street and for a simple challenge of spending 1000 Euros in the span of one hour.
People don't really bargain here as the price of most items are fixed but that suited me just fine as spending the equivalent of $1100 USD in an hour would be quite the challenge and lower prices wasn't exactly conducive to helping me succeed with said mission 💵💸

I took my Father to Rhodes from Germany where he came to visit me when I was in the Army. I found out he had been there 42 years earlier in the Navy. it was a very special time for us both. Sadly my father has since passed away.

You should visit next Chaniotis village in Chalkidiki's first peninsula in north Greece. Amazing beaches with gold sand and pine trees reaching the coast.

Some amazing jewelry in that shop, and lovely lady explaining it to you. I never bought any item of jewelry for myself until my dog (profile pic) died about 10 years back. Sick with his loss, I spent £700 on a gold Edwardian mourning locket, put his fur inside. Still wear it, he goes everywhere I go. Little bugger!

Great video, again, Harald. Here's an odd observation: At 1:02:40 the light blue case saying "Original" contains cans of the Finnish long drink beverage (called Lonkero in Finland). It's a mix of gin and grape fruit soda and was invented for the Helsinki Olympic Games in 1952. Still a very popular summer drink in Finland. You could travel up north and try it in it's original habitat, one day. 😊

I used to go to Rhodes every summer with my parents when i was younger, this video brought back some good memories. Especially the Ibiscus shop and the liquorstore at the end, visited them both multiple times every vacation. Both the pomegranate liqueur and their coffee ouzo is sublime!

The quality of items in that man's shop is amazing. They look so real and the detail is best I've ever seen. It's a real talent to make something look so real and antique like and to make even better the materials used seem to be of superb quality . I really love the vase or handled jug like items with the chariot that you was looking at as well. Would love to order one from this gentleman for my wife. Might have to spend some of my severance package money I recieved for 20+ yrs at company I worked for before the family business sold out to corporate company that ran it down and offered severance packages to long term employees to cut costs. Anyways that's enough rambling on about my bad luck. The Northman is inspiring me to take a step back and evaluate myself and maybe take a journey somewhere. England life style is boring.. all it is, people just drink and drink, after we do our pub shift.. spend more money in 2 days.. when I'm home in Greece it such a easier life style.. few beers, in Athens, get last train home.. so many cheap places in Greece to have a few drinks and some food..

Over the course of watching Harald's videos my wife and I have adapted what we like to call Baldrisms Anything overpriced at the grocery store: "10 dollars for a dozen eggs"? - That's an outrage!
