Physikly it is an usb 3.0 port. But the switch itself only supports usb 2.0. So the switch needs an Software update that unlocks usb 3.0

I’m glad you made this video. I work for an isp and I have gone on many calls where one device will get better speeds than other devices. And the customer thinks it’s the service. This video just shows that your internet speed is just one factor in the grand scheme of internet speed. Different device have different limitations and your internet speed can’t overcome those.

Thanks for making this video. Been having this exact same problem and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. Just ran a test on my laptop, which is on Wifi, and it's consistently getting ~380-400/250-280mbps, while my hardwired switch was only getting 48/25. So stupid that Nintendo's architecture caps you out at this :(

I just did the same test here, probably not the same conector but I get almost fixed 93 Mbps, checked my NAT, UPNP, cable version (tried CAT 5, 6 and 7), nothing is blocking the speed on the router side. I tried a few times with the WIFI on 5GHz, and its literally 10cm distance from the Switch and the max speed that I get is 76 Mbps, guess this 17 Mbps of difference makes a diference haha. One last thing, I use my switch to play Fortnite sometimes and the difference on game is noticeable, I get like 10-20ms ping on cable vs 30-40ms on WIFI.

Just buy the Nintendo Switch Lite, 1G (1000Mb) internet connection, 930Mb via ethernet on my PC, 500 to 640 via WiFi on my iPhone XS MAX and PS4... And around 50Mb only on my Switch Lite I was wondering why... Now I know Nintendo play it cheap. Edit: I managed to force two frequency on my router, classic 2.4Ghz and the more efficient in close distances 5Ghz with respective SSID and I can now go up to 80Mbit/s round in the test and I calculated 32Mbit/s (4MB/s) effective in download of games.

it's not slow at all, you are not supposed to have a 1000mbps server avaiable anytime you want to use it, because it cost too much, unless you run a datacenter in every country and even tough it would be also very expensive to maintain. And at that speed you pretty much can download anything even faster than other consoles since nintendo games are 10 times smaller in storage size.

The Switch is compatible with the LAN Wii adaptor RVL-015. It's 100 Mbps. I think that it's locked to that value.

Well I get similar performance with an ancient usb adapter from wii I had. it is only a 100mbps adapter. On my pc I get about 94-96mbps per second with same adapter. I would say its a switch limitation. When downloading games it does about 6000KB/s which is like 46mbps. In practice though this doesn't matter. its plenty enough speed to play multiplayer games, its only when installing new games from eshop you will notice a slower download speed compared to say a PC.

The Nintendo Switch's hardware supports USB 3.0, but the firmware locks it out, so Nintendo needs to manually update it (odds are they're going to release a 1st party 3.0 adapter and they're waiting until that releases to enable it). I've also heard talk of Thunderbolt 3 but I highly doubt it.

I get 30-40mbps on my Xbox one and I never lag at alllllll. Ever!! The switch doesn't need that much (Mbps) to play games online anyway. For downloading games that's a different story .

My comps get 200 down 20 up, switch gets 75 down 15-20 up. It depends on the cable and connecting it to the back. The usb3 isn’t enabled on the back yet (if ever). It isn’t perfect and I know the cables i use take a 20-30mbs hit so it’s definitely the switch having issues still.

The problem is the speed test on your switch is not capable of reaching as high speeds as speedtest.net because it hasn't been improved and developed as much as speedtest.net as the switches is for generally verifying the internet is working not testing maximum speed

Just got the Switch OLED and was hoping the built in ethernet would be faster than the launch switch + USB ethernet I was using before aaaaand... no On a 220/20 connection I get max 85mbps down and 14.5 up. It's very inconsistent too, a lot of the time it'll read 50mbps. Sometimes I check the built in bandwidth log in my router while downloading a game and it can be as low as 5mbps-20mbps Pretty much the same performance as my launch Switch and USB adapter. Everything is using CAT6, and a laptop connected to the same switch will hit the cap no issues at all. My actual internet speed is very consistent, so I'm not expecting these fluctuations to be my connection itself I can only assume the Switch is somehow incapable of higher speeds, or that Nintendo's servers are throttling bandwidth. I would guess the speed test is run by Nintendo and if they decide to limit bandwidth, it won't give you a true reading

My problem is when I connect by provider A with 25Mbps connection vs provider B with 25Mbps connection, provider B speed is maximum while provider A only 10% of speed. Maybe there's problem with dns routing. Because I connected both providers via PS4 is just fine, no major differences. But the Nintendo switch networking is just big problem.

I don't think that Nintendo intended a Full Gigabit speed on the Switch. I think a 100 Mbit is more dan enough. So the USB 3.0(??) port in the Switch is not using the full speed. Do the test on a PS4 or Xbox One (S) and see what the speed is on those console's.

Yeah, the problem is I believe the switch doesn’t support high speeds. I have 100mb/s at my home but the fastest I ever saw was 63mb/s. The average is around 50. Then again, the only reason you would want faster internet on Switch is for downloads because online play is entirely P2P dependent. You can have super fast internet and still lag if someone in the game has bad internet

I got a UGREEN third party adapter. It says it supports 10/100Mbps connections. I’ve plugged that into my home router and the supposedly usb 3.0 port on the dock. I’m not struggling with the Switch overheating like some third party Ethernet adapters has since 5.0 firmware. I have a pretty decent home internet connection (300 down/20 up). I’m barely getting 20-30 down and 1-5 up on my Switch though. I got the Ethernet cable mainly for college though because there are three Ethernet ports on the wall and using the switch takes from the already crappy dorm WiFi (like 1 down and maybe 1 up) despite good (100+ up and down from the wall) internet. I haven’t tried turning off the WiFi on my home router yet but I’m not getting the speeds I get on other devices. I get 10-20 on Switch WiFi, 20-30 on Switch wired, 100-150 on laptop WiFi, 150-200 on laptop wired, but only get 250-300 on my phone WiFi. So the Ethernet cable clearly helps but I don’t know what the bottleneck is. It’s either the Switch hardware or the servers it connects to to test it.

Maybe I could get it faster by setting the DNS to 45.55.142.122 and using the SwitchBru DNS and use that “hidden browser” to run speed tests with different servers than Nintendo’s. I normally use OpenDNS with my router so I doubt that’s the problem as Google DNS isn’t much faster and for testing downloads I up the MTU to 1500.
