As a mixed person, this is so overdue that it's tragic. However, now that we have this in our current climate, it gives me hope in humanity again. Share. This. With. Everyone. You. Know.

This was so good. I was born in the 70s, went to high school in the Bay Area in the 90s. Got a LOT of "what are you" my entire life. My parents were able to give perspective on their cultures but neither of them understood what it was to be both. I had a very different experience than they did. I think the biggest challenge of being multi racial and multi cultural is the pushback from your own people and family. I was the only half white cousin. I was teased for being white. But also the brownest of my friend group. As a kid I never felt that I totally belonged to any group. As an adult I love being different, I love that I have ancestry from all over the world. It is very strange to have kids who look 100% white and have a very different experience than I did. Thanks to the filmmaker for a great documentary. And the kids are just amazing.

I’m mixed race and from the south. Loved this doc but wish he had covered mixed kids from different geographic regions of the USA. The mixed experience is very different when geography is included…

That would have cost more money and time to make. If this doc does really well maybe HBO will let Kamau make a Part 2 or even better a whole series based on this. A 6 or 8 part series would do justice to this topic. It would also allow Kamau to travel around the country to focus on different regions.

Its very telling they didn't even feature one bw with a mixed child. Even googling or searching youtube they could've picked a few bw with mixed kids out if they wanted.

RESEARCH KAMU BELL, the producer. He has a strong dislike for BW. He started out as a comedian and used to make jokes about us for years. And the jokes were not funny. You could tell that they are coming from a place of anger, strong dislike and possibly rejection, when he was younger. Kamu is OBSESSED with mixed race/interracial topics but uses Black Cvil Rights struggle as subjects to make money. He comes across as having a strong dislike for WM/the establishment (his social media), but is obssessed with white and mixed at the same time. It's weird and I noticed it years ago.

So, do you identify as one race, both races or neither but other? I’ve been to Asia. If you’re mixed race, most Asians won’t consider you Asian at all. Of course, most whites worldwide won’t consider you white either. It’s gotta be an interesting place to be in. 🤷‍♂️

I'm 58 yrs old and I am still asked "what are you." It's a trigger that I am still working out in therapy. It's not, what are you mixed with, etc. It's the "what" are you that triggers me. As if I am a thing. Hopefully, this gen will have a better way of dealing with the racism from both sides. For me, I'm not Black enough, and White people, well, anyway. This should be an intersting watch.

IN Jamaica, the "Browning class" is the term used to refer to people of mixed African and European ancestry, essentially the same as a "mulatto class" in other contexts, but with the "browning" term signifying a more specific social and cultural identity within the Jamaican context; it often implies a higher social status than simply being "mixed race.". Key points about the "browning class": Meaning: Refers to individuals of mixed African and European ancestry, often with lighter skin tones and European kr Asian or Mixed race phenotype compared to the majority Black population in Jamaica. Social implications: Historically, the "browning class" has been associated with greater privilege and access to opportunities compared to those considered purely Black. Terminology preference: While "mulatto" is technically accurate, "browning" is preferred in Jamaica as it reflects the unique social dynamics and cultural nuances of the island.

Ridiculous. Why don't some parents prepare their biracial children for the real world? Are there not tapped in? They will fill a diaper bag, a book bag but not fill child's mental and emotional bank to be able to stand firm and not be shaken for who they are, thus setting the foundation for future biracial bonding. Blows me away.

No black women or white male prospective of being in an interracial relationship with parenting. It was a nice documentary but not in depth.

I look forward to eventually watching this interesting movie. Mixed race people is what it is. It means things are gonna be mixed up. I’m not saying it’s good or bad. I know it’s not for me. If I ever get married and have kids, they will look like me and be one race. I just don’t think people understand the difference between racism and preserving one’s race with pride. They are two totally different things. I also don’t think people in interracial relationships on both sides understand the unique challenges and identity hardships any mixed race kids will have all their life. We’re all people from God. However, we are different racially and should still respect and love one another. As people now have the right to marry and breed interracially, people also still have the right to only marry and breed monoracially. Everybody is different and has their own choices. Peace to all. 👌🏻

Who, pray tell, ARE the people of the "United" States?!? The country is a nation of IMMIGRANTS, their first boats met by indigenous residents..... It has never been a completely "white" nation -- although certain people in power would have everyone believe that was (and should be!) the case! Race MAY be said to be a "construct", however the subsequent behavior around race certainly is NOT. Until that day, everything IS about race as well as gender, belief (or not), and who consenting adults choose to love.
