Kyle, thank you for doing a true test of these tires. I used to race motocross, have done a number of track days on sport bikes, and now I’m rocking a 2018 ATAS. The moment I saw these tires I thought they actually looked like they’d be a good 50/50 tire despite some people saying they looked too slick. I am extremely pleased to hear they are living up to what I was expecting to see, and Dunlop’s hype. These will be my next tires for sure now. Again, thank you for your work testing and reviewing these. I have become a true fan of yours, and also these new tires.

Check out my R1200GSA at Laguna Seca on TKC80's : kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2qqaKere5mffqs That was a good time! These Dunlop Mission tires have really really impressed me. I would have liked them to include more silica in the compound for better wet weather traction... but that is my ONLY suggestion. They have killed it with this tire for sure. Happy Holidays. - Kyle

@@manybikes Hey Kyle. You wish they'd have better wet traction, but does that mean they're not great in the wet? I'm looking for a 50/50 tire but I also ride and commute year round in the PNW where we get 3-4 months of rain every year, so wet performance needs to be good for me to feel safe commuting in the rain. Think these would fit the bill still?
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Matt Hagge they were okay / good in the rain - but not spectacular. If i rode them “normally” they were good. If I pushed them with abnormal acceleration or excessive breaking - they lost traction. This tire doesn’t have silica, nor dual compound... which could have improved the wet weather traction.

Yes they are! Pretty sweet tires! Dunlop hit a home run on them... well at least a triple. I would have like to have seen a Dual Compound. Heavier in the center and lighter on the sides. I wear out the center of this tire more than any other tire I have run. Side are super stiff... could use a softer sticker rubber and then they would be "even more amazing" and would wear evenly.

@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Oh man... Put on the Spot. Well... the AX41's are currently on 2 of my bikes. The Dunlop Mission tire is on a third and the Motoz Tractionator Adventure is on a 4th. The AX41 is my favorite as it is amazing when new and has great feedback (sport bike like) from the road and is the lightest tire of the bunch... but it wears out quickly. If you want a little more longevity... AX41 in the front and a Motoz RallZ in the rear would be an option I would run. The TrailMax Mission tire is very interesting... I REALLY Like it... but it does not provide the "road feeback" that the AX41 does... and is less grippy in the rain. But I love it none-the-less as it is the best all around tire of the bunch. There are many way you could go... Sorry to be not so "concise" in my answer to you. Okay... Probably the TrailMax Mission on a GS... Thanks for watching! - Kyle

Thanks Kyle. This video was a real revelation. In the snow I have done many miles with the same snow, more or / and less, having the old TW152 / 101 which worked much better than I saw in comparing them with the Mission. In the dirt and light mud, these tires will certainly work well. I think the cold (weather) wet element is not the best in their performance. The tire recipe lacks silica and therefore does not perform well in the full liquid range, which is something the Michelin Adventure does extremely well. There are - and + as usual at any tire model. Now we are waiting for test the new TKC 70 Rocks...

Mixed Bag Alex... I LOVE the AX41 way more than I do the Mission tires for several reasons... 1st they feel GREAT on the street (sport bike like soft sidewalls that allow you to feel the road) and 2nd the are aggressive and work really really well off-road and 3rdly they are MUCH lighter than the Mission tire, which is very noticeable on the small but mighty 390. Was my favorite dirt tire on my 390 Duke. Now the BIG downside of the AX41 is the fact I got barely 2500 miles out of the rear. Not enough ... that is for sure. I have switched to the TKC70 Rocks in the rear and love it. Check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKvMqqmbqZl0bMU Now the Dunlop TrailMax Mission is a fantastic tire that will probably take you 8k miles on the 390 but is is heavy and you can feel it (and see it on the speedo) when on the highway battling traffic. Hope this helps...

The GPS rear will get more mileage than the Mission due to the solid center. The GPS in Mostly Off Road will get about the same traction as the Mission rear tire. The Mission will be smoother running and a littler quieter than the GPS. Very similar tires! That is for sure. - Kyle

@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Kevin. The Dunlop TrailMax tires will outlast a TKC80 by 2 or 3 times... it is "super close" to the TKC80 performance off-road and is much better when it it comes to street performance. The only two places the TKC80 excels is the sloppy or sticky mud or cold wet roads. But... the variance is minimal. The Mission is the better all around tire - that is for sure! - Kyle

So... I have put a Mission on the front of a BMW F850 GSA and a Tractionator Adventure on the rear and it worked really really well. Most stable on the highway yet. To answer your question... YES, the Mission is a great 50/50 tire. Much less dirt oriented than many but better on the road than many... and they wear well Thus the great 50/50 recommendations. There are better street tires. There are better dirt tires. This tire is good at both. Thanks for watching!

How did you get a job like that nice, living the dream! Once again great review. Would you say that front is slightly better off road than the rear? I like what I see for the rear but I normally run an Anakee Wild on the front but the Mission front would most likely be good enough for my riding style I'm thinking. Thanks, hope your kids enjoyed the snow.

Hi again, Kyle! In what order would you rank RallZ, Anakee Wild and TrailMax on wet pavement? (Rains quite a bit in my part of the world) Also how much of an impact on performance would you say different tire dimensions as well as differences in bike weight has? Neglectable or just really hard to say without actual testing? I'm on a wr250r and currently ride too much on asphalt to be comfortable with the Michelin ac10 (was on the bike when I bought it), but still want fair grip in the dirt. Thanks in advance and greetings from Sweden!

@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Great questions! Tire weight on your bike will make a HUGE difference in rideability and performance. On a big heavy 700cc + bike my answer would be the Rallz... but it is the heaviest tire. The Anakee Wild will by the best tire choice for your 250. Sizes / dimensions do make a difference too... the smaller / lighter tire you can put on your bike will be best for overall performance.

Thanks for your reviews! So helpful. I’m considering the Trailmax mission, Anakee wild or Battlax Ax41 for my 790R. I really like the longevity of the Trailmax. The performance of the Battlax. I’ve heard the Michelin is better than the Dunlop as a 50/50. It seems you prefer the Dunlop. Few questions: 1. What would you recommend? 2. Would you consider a combination of these three? One for the rear and a different one for front? If so what would you do?
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
My pleasure & Great questions! The TrailMax Mission tire is for sure a great 50/50 tire that works well almost everywhere. The AX41 is amazing but wears out really quickly. The Anakee Wild is the most “dirt bike like” feeling tire. I would make a different choice / recommendation for various “different trips” depending on the terrain, distance and percentage of hard core dirt / sand / mud and tight or fast road twistes. A pairing I really like is the Motoz RallZ rear and the TrailMax Mission front. Lots of possible options...

Yes, if riding off-road the Mission is much more aggressive than the Anakee Adv. The Mission is at least 10% more off-road oriented than the Anakee Adv and the Anakee Wild is at least 10% more aggressive than the Mission. Hi Kyle, question on your bike set up, what abs setting do you use when hitting the mud and trails? Also do you change it to rain mode and what abs setting you use while going up on the paved road to the snow? Great question. I run Sport Mode ABS and MTC OFF when I go off-road. On-road I run Sport Mode with MTC ON and ABS Road most of the time... Unless testing tires... then everything is OFF so I can "feel what the tire is doing" not what the electronics are doing. Rain mode in the snow would be MUCH safer, that is for sure. The TrialMax Missions are a favorite 50/50 tire but I love the GPS too... Very comparable tires.

In the snow & deep mud the Motoz RallZ, Anakee Wild and TrailMax Mission tires were the best. Of these three the Dunlop was best in many other areas. The AX41’s and GPS tires were best on wet pavement. I love the AX41’s but they wear out the fastest. I’ve been through 5 tears already. I’ve been mixing lately... Hey Kyle, question for you... I come from the Anakee Adventure on my R1200GS. For the road and wet and found them incredible, super planted never had an issue but of course, didn't do any offroad other than just a few country roads here in Ireland. Before that I had the K60s which were pretty decent offroad but dodgy on the road, especially when it got wet... Do you think the Missions would perform as good as the Anakee ADV on road/wet? I'll be honest and say that most of my ride is on road but I do love to explore country roads and you never know what you'll get, so having off-road capabilities would be great. Thank you!!

Thanks for watching Ramiro. The Anakee Adventure is a better wet road tire than the Mission tire. Dry road traction, the two tires are comparable. Off-road the Anakee Adv performs as an 80/20 and the Mission tire does perform as a 50/50 tire and is more grippy when the terrain gets muddy, sandy or really rocky. Well, the tire will make it without a question. However, it will be work to get it through some sections when you get into wet sloppy mud or large loose rocks. The tread does not "clean out" as well as I would wish and the carcass is so hard that climbing large rocks the tire just wants to deflect instead of conform. Other than that... It's a winner!
