This sparks a vivid memory of mine, my Dad and his close friend (still) rode their Guzzi's from Victoria B.C. down to California multiple times about 50 years ago, somewhat bittersweet now since Dad has sold all his bikes being that it's not safe for him to ride these days. A different time for motorcycles then, things like harmonic vibration that would vibrate the screws out of your Nikon, the same quirks and tricks of different bikes observed in this vid, early chassis built with questionable engineering merit, he rode them all, had the CB 750 in the 70's, Grampa had the 550, he raced an Elsinore, he bought a new Matchless as a young man, restored a beautiful Vincent Black Shadow, BSA's, Ariels, lots of cool stuff. I ride an almost 20 year old Honda now, to see if it will ever quit which I doubt it will, but with my years stacking up a bit now, I find that motorcycles are one of the last things I would be willing to give up since they provide so much more than just bugs in your teeth and a shiny coffee shop trinket to display. You can get a big smile just from buzzing around on a 50cc scooter in the backyard if you have the right mentality! DONT GET OLD!

What a great ride with a fantastic video....! Bravo... Guys!!! ....allthree of you. Hi Dennis.... I was an old College Mate of Jay Leno's (Emerson College, Boston, 1973) but we weren't friends....... just classmates for one advanced speech class, last semester, Spring of '73.... so he doesn't know me..... When I was a student there, I had an old 1963 BMW R-27 250 cc. Earls Fork Bike... which I safely rode through both Boston and Cambridge....... Glad you guys had a fabulous time and your "Riding into History" I'm sure was a fabulous event. Don't forget to stop in someday at Dale and Matt Walksler's "Wheels Through Time Museum, " in Maggie Valley, N C...... Cheers, Ted Schempp, Nashville

Beautiful Country and bikes . (pretty-good moustache too) I owned a 73 R60 for 12yrs , simple elegant machine . My TX650 is the same year , there's something about riding Old-Bikes that modern machines can never have plus you can always fix them 'on-the-road' . 400miles is my longest trip, but my buddy who is in his late-70's, would do a thousand-miler in a heart-beat . Go Dennis. So you’re a Hoosier? I’m retired in Brown County, IN where my mom’s from and wife has family in Madisonville, KY. 🧨 P.S. My dad was a Penn State Trooper in the late 30s and rode Harley-Davidsons. Here’s a stat for you. Twice as many troopers were killed on their motorcycles in those years than from firearms. Needless to say, there was zero chance of me riding a bike as a kid.

Vintage bikes can do some serious miles. In 2019 did two Ironbutt Saddle Sore 1000s with a twelve hour break between the runs, on 1975 CB550F Super Sport. First SS1K the bike completed was in 2017. (SS1K requires at least a 1000 miles ridden in less than 24 hours)

The Guzzi wobble is due to the springer seat. Change to a standard single seat with no spring and the wobble is gone.

a 1000 mile ride? Hec, that's just a warm up. In 2013, at the age of 72, I rode my bike from CA on a mission to 'bag' the 13 states I had never previously been in before, ALL of them east of the MS River.....1st new state....GA. First 'key' destination....Key West, FL. By the time I returned home, I had put over 13K on my motorcycle...and had an over $4,000 motel bill. If you think I must be wealthy, couldn't be farther from the truth and never bought a new car in my life. New motorcycles...well, that's another story, but I always paid cash. "Let someone else pay the interest and take the beating, as my ex wife's uncle often said. BHE
