The "window safety not available" message occurs when you disconnect the battery. To fix it, just start the car, hold the window switch down until it reaches the bottom and hold for another 10 seconds, then hold the window switch up and hold for another 10 seconds when it reaches the top. This allows the motors to learn the up and down extremes and clears the error.

Hate to point this out, but the Brera doesn't have a Busso engine, it has a GM "high feature engine". It is basically a Vauxhall engine as used in the Signum and Vectra, with a little bit of Alfa fettling. Very much not a "proper" Alfa engine. Shame you didn't go for the 156 as that would have made some fantastic noises for the footage, and you wasted the guys time to boot. That 156 was worth £1K all day. I'd not have bought that Brera for £500, or possibly even at all.

I have exactly the same Brera (same spec, same color, same wheel) 5 year with it and it's a wonderful car! Like every Italian car, it have its drawback but, globally, it's pretty reliable. The subframes bushing are know to be fragile and could fail on bad road.. when it happens we ear some strange noise when we turn the steering wheel. The most common issue is the oil temp sensor that fail pretty quickly and its a expansive parts and very tricky to change (you have to disassemble the whole bottom part of the motor (it's just to indicate the oil temperature so not necessary for you, you could just unplug it) If the service is not made regularly the chain could make some noice, but it's the same for every GDI engine. The oil breather is directly connected to the air admission so it happens that some oil get over the airflow sensor so it need to be clean (And last thing. In order to preserve the coil, put the spark plug gap at 1.1mm not 1.3mm ) Otherwise it's a Very good car! It so pleasant to drive it. What a good choice 👍

@@AK.2425 possibly, 3 years between import and crash so very possible if it were a personal import, but unlikely if it were imported to be sold on here. (Unless it was bought back by them, obvs.)

It also has locally issued plate from Reading and the yard is rented out by for car storage by loads of people so it is possible it was imported by them and to someone who uses the yard aswell.

It makes me soo happy seeing alfas on the channel. There's not a lot of content out there with alfa romeos, especially with the legendary Busso engine. Hope the boys get one of them soon.

I had a 159 ti sportwagon 2.0 diesel for 4 and a half years. Loved driving it. Maintaining it was a different proposition. Now have a Honda CR-Z which is cheap as chips to run by comparison.

I had a brera V6 and even though the engine went pop and sold it for a grand I'd honestly have another one tomorrow and probably will end up having another at some point. As long as you don't mind working on it your self they aren't that bad tbh

Dreams fading away quickly. The Brera was one of my forgotten dream car, based on the specs and 4WD back in the days when it was new. But just realised, I could buy one for pennies in these days. Probably I won’t do, but you guys gave me an extra reason to watch the Scotland road trip 😎 Thanks, Peter 🇭🇺

Looking forward to seeing what Taylor does with the Brera.(And within budget…Wink wink😉😉)We all know how he can stretch the budget when needed…Such a great looking car in its day.

I'm looking forward to watching Taylor fall in love with that Alfa, it happened to me, a few years ago I was looking for a Lexus, ended up buying an Alfa GT with crushed sills, slammed to the deck, BBS alloys, and I fell in love with it, it reminded me how enjoyable it can be to be a car owner, best car I've ever owned by far. Unfortunately, due to financial problems and the aforementioned crushed sills, it has now gone to that great scrappy in the sky, but I'd own another in a heartbeat if given the chance!

Brera is not Busso my friends. The Brera's engine is made by Holden. Block is actually Holden and head is alfa's with twin phaser system...had one TI spec, Q4 CA...sold her with 70000km's on the clock. Timing chain and some other bits are critical to change on time.. original TC is expensive, but as it was under GM, Chrysler parts fits just fine.

Unfortunately, its not a Busso engine (or Ferrari) its a GM derived engine... also the chain is a pain to replace... solid car though... also you sure its 4WD and not AWD?

I can't wait to see this in action..... I have a challenge for you in old top gear fashion ........ How about after this you all have to buy a people carrier ..... Modify the the car into a day campers using only bits you can salvage from vehicles being broken on Facebook and only Facebook or found in scrapyards And do 2 laps of the nc500 over a week you're only allowed out of the conversions for 1 the toilet 2 re fuel 3 if one of the cars breaks down the other team members have to fix it and the cars owner that breaks down has to trust and remain in said poorly car 4 max budget of 750 for car and build

My 1st Brera had engine failure on the way home after buying it. My second one had 7 years before part ex’d. Only thing that failed was a brake light switch and a plastic plug on the rad.
