Have a P38 myself, 2.5 Diesel though! Bought it from a farmer, lying dying in his field ready to go the the scrap yard in the sky. In steps me, bought it, fixed a ton of things on it (fixed and kept the air suspension too) , brought her back to life! Drove her to Budapest from Ireland, lived there for a year travelling to countries surrounding Hungary, drove back home to Ireland via 8 countries. The old girl only ever needed diesel and that was it! Can’t wait to see the rest of this series and how your P38 performs.

I had a P38 2.5diesel I smashed it up every green lane I could and it had original air ride which worked too. And I did 6k miles in it and the car never faulted once. Never failed to start never broke down nothing. Was one of the most reliable cars I've owned

The p38 is such an enigma, no other car can be so good and so terrible at the same time, it's a unique mix of amazing and terrible, it holds the crown for the least and most unfixable and unreliable car ever but also can cover 250k...at least it's not powered by ingenium

Take self amalgamating tape and cable ties for when the coolant pipes let go. I've just had to do all mine. You've avoided the pitfalls of the eas system with the spring conversion. Bloody LOVE a P38. No wonder it handles like crap if it's on springs, air ride all the way with these. The 4L is more like 180hp rather than 290. The only thing that can really go wrong for you is electrical. The body electronic control module on mine is starting to go senile and causing all kinds of issues 😢

The Range Rover looks like a Metrocab so is out immediately. The Alfa is a beautiful looking car but basically it's a FIAT. The Mazda RX8 is the best of the 3 and I'd have driven it on the same journey.

Sorry to break it to you Rory but that 4.0 Rover V8 had 188bhp from factory. Even the 4.6 only had 228bhp. The later BMW 4.4 that was in the L322 shares the same M62tu as Taylor's 540i and made 286bhp
