Crazy timing. I just finished and used my oloro deck for the first time today. It's always interesting seeing how people build differently. I went all in on life gain. Serra avatar was a 59/59 and I nuked the board with a vizkopa guildmage. Felidar sovereign is an easy instant win con, but my favorite combo was eternity vessel and phryexian processor

I was actually wanting to build a deck awfully similar except more tax-oriented, smothering tithe, rhystic study, norn's annex, ghostly prison, monologue tax, revel in riches. All things tax the board, give me an advantage, and prevent damage from being done to me. Thinking of adding some board politics cards to it, too, like coercive portal and tempting contract, to make it live up to the theme. I call it the bureaucrat's deck. You also had some great cards in there that I'll have to consider.
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
Given a little more time I might do a similar build as that's sort of what I was going for. But then I get distracted by some random card and immediately start building around that 😂

A cool list ! I am also running Oloro as a commander, but my build is very staxy and it wins through PW. Also, you aren't running artifact ramps at all ?
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments! I thought about that as I was going through and I remembered the Glimmervoid. I was like why is this in here again lol? It's more of a slow burn though so not much ramp at all aside from Temple and Ancient Tomb which don't really count. It would be cool to power it up but my playgroup isn't usually doing high powered stuff so this is a comparable deck to other player's decks in the group. Animar and Edgar come out from time to time at FNM but the more I play the more I enjoy mid-range type decks with silly stuff from Magic's history.

Question about piracy, would the opponents not be able to simply tap all their lands in response to piracy being cast?

I was considering running Piracy in my Oloro deck, however I think opponents can just tap their lands in response. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, even without mana burn, because you can move to another phase and then you don't have to worry about people countering your spells. I went a bit more aggressive into craze life gain combos with my deck. Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood, Heliod + Walking Balista, Bolas' Citadel + Aetherflux Reservoir. As such Ive called the deck "I gain life, and I win". Seems fitting.

To piggyback off this comment, "Drain Power" would have the effect you described, but it only allows you to target one opponent and not all.

Have you considered combining Ixidron with Monoscynth Lattice and March of the Machines? Get Monoscynth Lattice onto the battlefield first, then when you have enough mana to play both March of the Machines and Ixidron, do it at the same time (March first).
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
Took me a second to wrap my head around that combo but damn....the look on people's faces when that happens lol. If only I could play Tolarian Academy to get all the mana easier.

Great deck! I may have to try it out when I play with my friends online. May I ask why there isn't an inclusion of demonic tutor or enlightened tutor? They seem like they'd be perfect fits for search out your win conditions.
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! and great question! Those would be great additions but they'd increase the power level by making the win-con easier to get. This deck is meant to be a lower power level than the Animar or Edgar deck. Plus, I only own 1 Demonic Tutor now and I don't have an Enlightened oddly enough lol

I play my Oloro a bit strangely, he's my commander for a mono white lifegain/enchantment deck so I never play him. But because he's the commander I can use extort cards or things like Divinity of Pride. Get Boon of Plenty and Rhox Faithmender out and that's 8 life each upkeep for him being in the command zone. Then Feildar Sovereign and Test of Endurance make for great win cons on top of Serra Avatar enchanted with Life Link or Storm Herd.
@TraeKryzer2 жыл бұрын
Weird rules thing, but Extort can actually be used in mono white or black decks! It's because the mana symbol in Extort isn't technically in the rules box of the card, it's in the reminder. As reminders go, you can completely remove them from the card and it still functions. So it'd be weird if they printed a fancy version without the reminder and it unexpectedly wouldn't work, so it does! You can double check this too on scryfall "commander:w o:extort"
@madcapsymphony10642 жыл бұрын
@@TraeKryzer Good to know, I still have a few cards with White/Black mana costs in them though like the Divinity of Pride. It also throws off the other players when you have a 3 color commander but only get white mana drops.

@@madcapsymphony1064 I think it's a really interesting strategy! I've played around with the idea a few times. The obvious one to do it with was Kenrith. But I like Oloro! Definitely not something people would expect.

I just see people talking magic so I might as well too, I don't have an expensive deck like this, my most expensive (market) price deck is about 360 dollars which is Azusa Mono Green Ramp. Played it the other day with my cousin, he had Grave Betrayal out (played K'rrik), board wiped me 3 times, snagged my stuff all 3 times, and I still won due to my card draw engines lol
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
Rest assured without the foils this deck isn't as expensive. Probably a couple hundred at most. Azusa is a great ramp commander as well. I have a buddy that has an Azusa deck and he always gets Kogla out and starts smashing thing. What kind of stuff do you run in it?

Hey man, I see you're a relatively small channel so hopefully you'll see this comment... It's a really serious question, you listed your deck at $1000. I'm curious as to why so many channels will recommend these expensive decks (some being over $3000 often times) like dozens of people are going to click on the link and buy all the cards for them. I'm not trying to hate or anything, but why do people do this? Imagine I had only 10 decks but each cost this much. Am I missing something? I probably don't understand, but like, is it expected of a Magic player to spend a decent chunk of their salary on cards? This current economy under Biden isn't any help either. I'm just curious why this is done so commonly
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
I think a large portion of people that play Magic are long term players that have built up collections over the years. Most everyone in my playgroup, including the newer players, have collections with pricy cards in them from barely even trying. As long as you draft every once in a while, do a little trading, participate in FNM, and crack a box every so often, you tend to build up these kinds of collections. So for a vast part of the player population, a deck that's $1000 is easy to hit when you throw in the best cards you own.
@CRGGames2 жыл бұрын
While budget decks are important, there's nothing wrong with using your best or most expensive cards either.
