This is Steve from Pragmasis. We are interested in LPL's comments about our products and we take them seriously. We have 'false gates' incorporated in our cylinder production, now, as we believe in continuous improvement across our range. Having said that, we have _never_ heard of a real-world theft involving any of our locks being picked. We set up this business in 2003 so that is now more than 16 years of experience. Our priorities are far more focused on resisting a wide variety of mechanical attacks and trying to make our products easy to use so people actually do use them! All (constructive) feedback is welcome and much appreciated. We can always improve.

phục êwê Still got my dumpster bike stolen... It’s origin came from my neighbors dumpster, I wanted the wheels from it, then I put on some trashy bent wheels, jumped some stairs (missed some flights of stairs), jumped off some ramps (if the university didn’t want me doing it, they wouldn’t have made the architecture building have nice slow inclined decorative wall ramps that dropped perfectly into a short stair section or alternatively a ledge drop, I mean it must have been designed by a BMX or skateboarder, too perfect). Anyways, the wheels were not only bent like a taco but they were also buckled heart shaped (so you basically get kicked every wheel rotation). The bike was a crappy $59 bike when it was new, with most of it rusty (not much worse than the ugly purple paint... I called it an eye sore but good theft prevention device). I mean everything on this bike was just a piece of trash (litterally, even those wheels came from the dumpster of a bike shop, and they were 100x better shape before I had missed some 10 ft tall stairway and smacked the back rim on the second flight step and bailed with the thing bouncing around comically). I mean this thing was TRASH! They stole it at night, I expect in the morning they realized their mistake and put it back where it belongs (in the trash)... Do I take care of bikes? Sure, I’m the only one I know who was spending an hour on the weekends waxing my race bike. It was always showroom quality clean, and if the road had many cracks I hopped off and ran over the rough spots with the bike hoisted over a shoulder. Even my $5 bike I kept inside (I’d carry it up the stairs to my room on the 4th floor). My $1 bike was also stolen and later recovered after they wanted me to pay a $50 parking ticket/impound fee and I was like “whoa, you found my stolen bike!”. I’ve had 4 bikes stolen during college (one road bike, one dumpster bike, a $1 bike, and a motorbike). They will steal ALMOST anything. But there was one... One that no thief dared to steal... It was a custom made front wheel powered motorized bike (25cc grass trimmer engine). It had 2 reasons it wasn’t stolen, one was probably to do with the 8 inch chrome spike at crotch level over the front wheel, it was Intimidating as hell. Second it was was so unique and identifiable, there are 0 other bikes like it. I think most people would recognize it, as it was popular during football games, I’d have typically 100+ waves from people walking to the stadium or in town, and once was really weird where a crowd of like maybe 300+ was cheering at once... It was weird, I guess they thought I was maybe an attraction like a pep-rally? Anyways, I was just doing burn outs at the stop light with the engine cranked ~13,500 rpm and drifting it everywhere (you lock the back wheel and kick it sideways about 80 degrees). I’m not sure why that’s cheer worthy, but I let everyone who wanted to test drive run it (that goes for any day, if someone asked I’d say “sure, take it for a spin, just be back in like 10 minutes”, didn’t even know their name, they could do whatever they wanted). So nobody stole that bike, to unique and personalized. I didn’t even lock it (people could borrow it/drive it if they wanted). That’s the only time I’ve seen theft prevention work without a quality lock, lol!

For those complaining about a specialized tool: It isn't the tool that is the problem, it is the lack of other security features! Too many people are turning to this style of lock on the misconception that the tools to pick them are not readily available. Putting aside the fact that such tools are available, and will become more common a thief-tool as more of these locks are manufactured, that mentality is always going to lead to another generation of easily picked locks. It actively prevents the manufacturer from including better security because the good old thought of 'why bother with the extra expense' is always going to be present. So, by showing they have the tools, people like LockPickingLawyer are attempting to wake up those manufacturers!

It's probably worth mentioning that picking of motorcycle security in thefts is virtually non-existent; fortunately the majority of bike thieves don't have the skill (or tools) that LPL or Bosnian Bill have. A brute-force attack is the most likely method, either a hammer or angle-grinder. The advantage this lock has over some others, besides its low price, is the fact that it's very hard to attack and that it can be used to secure a chain or as a stand-alone disc-lock. As a disc lock, a criminal is far more likely to cut the disk than this. Equally, an attack to a chain is going to be a thief's preferred method when tackling this. A bad lock that has seriously limited variations is of course no good, as is something that can be defeated quickly and easily with minimal skill and equipment. I'd love to see the lock that beats LPL, and I know that the majority of quality lock manufacturers (Pragmasis and Squire being just two) are always working to make their kit as good as it can be, but it's also important that motorcycle owners know that buying the best security they can afford - and using it - really does make a big difference. Defeating security takes time and effort; the lowest hanging fruit is almost always preferable... John

Somebody should make one that turns counterclockwise, just for fun. Then he'd have to use, "the pick that I and Bosnian Bill made."

Roundlock: I'm almost impossible to open. LPL: The pick that Bosnian Bill and I... Roundlock: Ah sh!t do we really need to this now.

Proffessional lock picking is scary Like if theres a locksmith like this then theres gotta be a really good thief like him out there

I don't have any use for it but now I wanna buy this lock because of LPL's praise for it.

Honestly hearing him say "quite good" about the rest of the lock is all I needed. Anyone smart/skilled enough to pick will figure it out eventually, I'm more interested in keeping away the bog-standard scumbag.

Listening to you explain while you pick sounds like when you go to the dentist and they examine your teeth to relay information to their partner

I assume a lock like this is more expensive than most that you demonstrate blunt force attacks on, but when the alternative is using a custom made tool, I think it would be interesting to see the lock approached from a more probable angle.

That is neat I didn’t even know locks like this existed.

This is Lock Porn Logistics ....I WANT ONE OF THOSE (seems a better design than the other barbell lock on the market)

One thing that's for certain is that whatever that lock guarded no longer "exists" where it should anymore.

I bet this would be great for a bike lock. Secure a chain together with minimal extra weight.

No junkie gonna pull that off 👏👏

Man you gotta make an updated video of some of the best locks. Was there ever a lock you couldn't open? Not do to rust and time but naturally.

Cool! A pick that you can use against vampires too!
