1. What Good branding is 1. Branding is a deliberate pairing of things through an outcome. That’s it. 2. Branding always happens but our goal is good branding. 3. Good branding is a deliberate pairing of our business with good outcomes for ideal customers. 4. In Steps: 1. You start with a brand that means nothing. 2. Then you pair that brand with something or someone your ideal customers like. 3. Your brand starts to mean the “thing the customer likes” to them. 4. Then, they want to associate themselves with that thing that they like. 5. But they can’t buy that thing. But they can buy a tiny silver of that association. 6. So, they buy the shirt with the logo that means that to them. 7. They get the shirt. You get the money. And it all happened because you deliberately paired it with something they like. 2. Why it makes you money 1. You get cheaper customers who are willing to spend more with you, for a longer time (hopefully for life). 2. Good branding also drives customer loyalty (AKA - buying more stuff more times) 3. Protecting you from competitors 3. How to start or grow yours 1. Most branding happens at random 2. Good branding happens at purpose 3. For good branding you have to associate your brand with good stuff your ideal customers like and distance your brand from bad stuff your customers don’t like. 4. Once bad branding happens, you shouldn’t eliminate the bad stuff, instead you should overwhelm your audience with so many good stuff that the bad part goes into irrelevance. 5. Brand has three main metrics: 1. Influence: How likely it changes someone’s behaviour 2. Direction: Whether the change is the one you wanted 3. Reach: How many people it changes it for

Notes for self: Brand is association of two things. If you associate your logo, name etc with something/someone your potential buyers like, then you're doing positive branding. Opposite would be negative(bad) branding. Your product os what people are exposed to for the longest time, so make sure your product is good. If even a small thing sucks about you, it will make your branding bad. To ammend for this, do a lot more other things your audience likes. Brand can pull towards or away. If you can steer clear of controversy then you'll have a more 'towards' appeal. You can judge whether your branding is working or not by measuring increases in reach, and seeing whether people do what you ask of them.

To start a brand requires being different from rivals in an aspect of value to customers, and that requires having a competitive advantage. Competitive advantage ---> Different from rivals in a valued aspect ---> Brand is created in buyer's mind ---> you can then 'pair' things of positive association with the brand.... ---> which then drives the competitive advantage further.
@brandmasteryacademy4 ай бұрын
I'm gonna be cheeky and add another way to optimize the 'pairing', and I would go as far to say it might be easier than the pairing model;)- Understand the scandinavian method on how to build brands that speaks to your customers buying mood and Buying motivation. It's called The 4 Emotional Customer Types and all about to sell more, to more! Build on a decade of research (Phd) and applied on thousands of brands . And it's really just a simple model, with simple do's and dont's and I still don't get why it's not widespread internationally! Thanks for great content :)
@justinmajor93897 ай бұрын
Great lessons overall… the Dylan mulvaney pairing in my opinion was a deviation from the mission statement, bringing people together over great beer… highlighting or putting anyone on a pedestal literally separates them instead of bringing them together… the pairing wasn’t bad, it was the presentation of the pairing. In Texas the BlueBell ice cream issue is another great example of how a brand can survive serious issues, even killing people.

I would suggest one thing to think about. It's the definition of learning because Alex describes what is called "progress" rather than learning. Which I think should be described as the process of understanding how something works and memorising that for another time. (Rather than applying what someone told you to do. Which after doing it over and over would make you understand certain stuff eventually but there's more to it imo.)

This is by far the most impactful video on brand I’ve ever watched. I’m on my second time through lol. Just occurred to me that building associations kind of works the same way as customer acquisition. You use the core 4 to drive associations (with people or other brands at least). So you might pay for endorsements like Nike, or make posts about associations you want to build, OR if your product or service is good enough, people will send “referrals.” Kind of like a cool kid at a party wearing a branded shirt (because he liked the associations the brand had built). Other kids at the party buy it purely because of the association they built between the “cool kid” and the shirt. This was an association the cool kid built for you, without you paying him anything. Kind of like a referral.

Your ability to basically do nothing. Rest, relax, meditate, and contemplate. Is the first habit you must craft to carve out your new life. Without this ability. When the health problem comes. When the business problem comes. When the relationship problem comes. You will be in utter fear, panic, and be unable to think clearly. When you see people like Alex doing 100's of millions business wise. This was only achievable when he first learned the above task I give you to master. Money which everyone is trying to attract here on Spaceship Earth. Is repulsed and stays away from those that live in this fear, and lack of abundance mindset. It might take a year or it might take you thirty years but everntually you will be able to beat down the money into submission. Good luck today because today is all we have.

As a fun note: I've always considered family crests/sigils and "army" flags as the first large scale 'branding' exercise. If saw Genghis Khan's flag, I'm pretty sure everyone knew what that mean.
