I'm glad you didn't give up and waited till you weren't pissed off at it. Cool little cars but a bitch to work on. I had a 95 Neon highline coupe I loved but when the drivers door got damaged so bad the upper hinge was pulled away from the body, I replaced the door, couldn't align it right, then many months later it threw the timing belt. I decided it was done and I didn't want to fix it again. I pulled my aftermarket Depo projector headlights and stereo and gave it away. Mine was too screwed up body wise and probably needed at least a new head. That PT is special, the turbo wasn't super common and neither was the 5 speed. Having basically a cheap SRT4 in a clown car body is a fun way to play with unsuspecting victims and you have all kinds of mods if you want to get stupid with it.

Running a 2001 PT that has one former owner. It's a manual 5 speed and fun to drive. It was a former trophy winning show car, the owner passed away and after 3 years in the garage, the wife sold it to me. Cost $500, but I have every service record, all the parts that were removed for upgrades or repairs. Boxes full of what I call bling stuff to continue fixing it up and about two dozen trophies and plaques. Recently did the valve cover gasket and a starter. A whole new set of tires so my grandson can use it for a daily driver. Then chasing sloppy steering and noises, we are almost finished with upgrading and replacing the entire front suspension, steering rack and pinion assembly, new clutch slave and new front calipers and pads. The rotors were slotted and still good. Messed up replacing the two drive axles and broke the new seal on the passenger side axle into the transaxle. Waiting on a replacement, none available locally, and it should be about ready to send to the alignment shop and get back to daily driving. First part of my video removing everything. Not a great video, but not everyone is a good videographer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZuxd3t7h5uJeZY

I'm so glad Tyler talked you into fixing the wee beastie. I have a friend in Alberta, Canada who loves the things. His mom has an orange Dream Cruiser and he has a turbo convertible that is sometimes used to plow snow on winter. The biggest issue with these is rust. Keep that at bay and they are surprisingly decent long distance cars. Wonderful to see Tyler on the channel again. Great guy great mechanic, and an even better friend. Well done, both of you. Keep up the good work.

If you're gonna beat on that clutch it's not long for this world. I HAD the same one and it lasted 6 months, and I followed the break in procedure. I do have solid mounts, Diablo 93 tune, and am running a lot more than stock boost and I should of known better. After several emails with a tech at Spec clutch I bit the bullet and got a Stage 3 with a billet aluminum flywheel and not an issue since. Its WAY more aggressive of a clutch, but like you, I didn't want to keep swapping clutches.

The PT Cruiser has always been a bit of a novelty car I even looked in to them and a friend went and had a test drive before telling me that the passenger seat was fixed position but the back of it could be adjusted. I had a quick look around one that was at a accident repair shop and I stopped being curious from then on. The non working tail pipe is something that would drive me mad, I have seen BMW X5's with them and Honda Civic's with them and I feel like the manufacturers are laughing at us.
