The thing that I absolutely love most about Ray finally having his own shop, is that he can give us complete repair series and even follow-ups of customers that come back for more work to be done, and he can more freely show us more of the goings-on around the shop instead of carefully aiming all of his camera shots to not capture more than he can get away with without getting into trouble. 😄

When you spoke of getting your hands dirty, I thought about my Dad, who was a mechanic all of his life. He was born in the early 1900's and passed in the late 70's. His hands were very rough, scarred, and missing a part of one of his fingers. He got it caught in a fan belt while the engine was running. Even when his hands were clean, they always looked "dirty". His hands were stained from all the oils and chemicals he worked with/around for decades. Never wore gloves. His hands were considered a "badge of honor" for all of the very hard work he did all of his life.

He's fully booked until the middle of January, at least. And that livestream earlier was quite the blockbuster (almost 4k viewers). But the work rate required to finish his commits will take a toll, and the worst thing for us (selfishly) is if he gets sick and stops posting videos/going live. We need to support him as he tries to expand the biz, keeps up with the viewers and supporters, and most importantly, have time to be there for his family because 12-hour workdays will take a toll. If Linus could build it, Ray can too.

If I couldn't return the tools then it would be up to the customer to keep it or donate it to the shop. I put in a lot of time returning tools and I earned a lot of respect from other shops and it benifited both shops in the end.

I have to relate a true story. 3 days ago, I was in a grocery store here in CA (California, not Canada). I was pushing my cart down an aisle where an employee was stocking the shelves. Just as I passed, she dropped a box of cereal onto the floor. I said, 'gravity'. It was not a conscious effort on my part, it just came out. I rounded the corner and headed down the next aisle, thinking 'what just happened?' Of course, I then said 'cereal gravity'. I was trying to keep from laughing while at the checkout. 60 years old, it made my day. Best wishes for your new endeavor, Ray!

Most or all of the connections are made so you can’t connect the wrong way. For example, I recently removed the dash in my Pontiac Solstice so I could repaint it (the previous owner painted it with cheap paint that was scratched up). There was many electrical connectors, three or four of them were for push buttons, all with the same connectors. The connectors all had a spline in different positions so I couldn’t connect them wrong.

Watching you deal with the battery with a penny in it reminded me of a recent experience. I had a customer come in with a VW so new, it still had the factory original battery. It was a massive pain in the ass to change, not because they buried the battery like in the Chevy Equinox, but because the positive battery terminal was cross-threaded. Remember, this was installed at the factory cross-threaded!

Someone bought on of these to me. I live in Australia in country Victoria. They had replaced the MAP sensor as the engine was shaking. I took one look at it and even though the engine oil was clean and the valve gear looked ok when the oil cap was off. I decided after 5 mins that it would be very difficult to diagnose and repair. I put my interrogator on it and there were many codes. I then gave them the BER.(Beyond Economical Repair). And it now sits forlornly in a field almost covered in grass. I saw another one for sale lately for $750 and yes it sold. I hope they have a big wallet and a kind compassionate mechanic. Looking forward to the next exciting episode as Ray does his magic. I watch every day and love it. Thanks Ray for all your efforts. There was a small indignity of focus nothing really cheers John.

Heya Ray, Keep the videos coming. It doesn't matter whether it is the 3rd or 4th or even the 5th video on particular car/repair. They are good and educational. Love he channel and now that you have your own shop, it's even better!

Definitely a good reminder why I got rid of my PT GT. Working on it was such a pain in the ass and it was always broken. It was fun though with that turbo and a 5 speed manual!

Great videos, your commentaries really makes it all worth watching. Nice to see that there are still a few good and trustworthy mechanics left. One who verifies an issue vice saying and replacing parts. Don't think you will have any problems about making it in your own shop. Keep on cruising.

Morning Ray and family, I'm still awake from a long 12 hour night shift and not sleeping until I've watched you fix stuff. I miss fixing stuff, getting the fluke and tdr out.... wiring diagrams...just the best of times. I miss doing what you do Ray though my stuff was a lot bigger and faster (fast jets) . Still love watching you work though, there's something about watching a pro work that's just quite relaxing and satisfying. Big high five to Mrs Ray and the little one's just because. You have yourself a good one, my bed is calling me.

Ray, great job again! I've always loved the look of the PT Cruiser, but between its design problems and all the other hands that have been in that engine, it is crazy how much you are finding! The owner of the PT is lucky to have found you! Now, about moving your operation to Massachusetts.....

Good video, shows that even pro mechanics can have issues with repairs that "should" be routine. I've replaced a few AC compressors, have backflushed the old-style serpentine condensers with solvent, and even replaced the parallel flow condenser on my 2004 Frontier after its compressor seized in 2018 in Gila Bend AZ departing for vacation (of course bummed me that my 1998 Frontier with same engine and AC compressor had 2.5 times the miles on it and still works good at 260K miles).

I think you are great. Sadly, one of my greatest pass times is laughing at mechanics in general for being soft. My son wants to be diesel mechanic, so i told him to qualify as boilermaker first to take some heat and repair buckets and scoops before doing diesel mechanic. There need to be more mechanics like you to diagnose problems correctly.
@michaelpressman7203
@michaelpressman7203 Жыл бұрын
The biggest problem is because of time constraints a lot of guys rush into a job and don't take the time to do proper accurate diagnostic and it ends up being more expensive more work more aggravation for the mechanic and the customer have a great day

People get attached to their cars. I have a 2014 Touareg diesel with 115,000 miles that I refuse to part with. Plus, not having a car payment is glorious.
@tegimr
@tegimr Жыл бұрын
@@richardklein408 agreed! A car with no payments and known history is a value to me, for certain. Purchase a new rig (and I'm glad people do) and you don't know for a while if that model has costly quirks. Purchase a used vehicle and you often don't know the history and purchase someone else's headaches. And sometimes you purchase a car that someone has just dumped a lot of money fixing and it's a good rig. I like my old cars.
