I've got a non-turbo 2008 PT Cruiser Touring. I bought it with 43,000 miles and now I've got 120,000 miles. I did the timing belt 20,000 miles ago and it took me almost a month because I discovered some extra parts that needed replacement. I broke the exhaust camshaft sprocket because I used a cheap sprocket holding tool from O'Reilly's. The tool held the sprocket by the teeth instead of the spokes so I had to buy a different holding tool and new sprocket. Since I had the air conditioning system open for a month, I replaced the accumulator. The studs on the accumulator weren't tight and I didn't have the right e-torx socket to tighten it so I carefully tightened it with a six point socket. The Freon would leak out after about a month so I bought the right sockets to tighten it and replaced all of the seals on my air conditioning. So far everything is working just fine. The dashboard lights and started coming on while driving but a $30 ignition switch from O'Reilly's fixed that. The check engine light has never came on and it's been a pretty reliable car. These cars are real bad about the motor mounts because they put all 3 on the same side of the engine.

I have a 04 with a big wheel agp on 18psi 5 speed. I just replaced the timing belt and tensioners and all the motor mounts and seals. The crank shaft sprocket broke and had to buy a new one. Car runs great and pulls hard making 318whp. Fun cars to mess with just a pain to work on

As I’ve said on Facebook I own the 2.2 turbo diesel model, 2004 Limited, I love the noise of the Diesel engine. For me the Gen 1 vs Gen 2 there’s no competition, Gen 1 is unique, quirky and well styled where gen 2 is just a bog standard Dodge interior and they’ve ruined the grill ☹️☹️

I first bought an N/A 2002 PT Cruiser 5 Speed as my daily driver. had almost 200K on it and never gave me any problems. It wasn't fast, but the 5 speed is definitely the way to go in that 2.4L engine. I came across a 2004 PT Cruiser GT 5speed with less than 100K for cheap and couldn't pass it up. Its a very fun car to drive and with less than $500 investment with parts and tune, i'm pushing 248hp and nearly 300 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels. I've heard its pretty easy to get to 300whp with just a little more cash. Injectors, E85 tune etc. I have traction issues in 1st and 2nd gear when going wide open, so careful throttle modulation is key. But its always fun at freeway onramps/ red lights surprising unsuspecting Fiesta/Focus ST's and even the occasional WRX.

My family has only had manual transmission PT’s. I think you have automatics. The Naturally aspirated in the 5 speed manual has plenty of get up and go for daily driving, especially cruising on the highway. My mom has a GT and the difference in power is noticeable. But as you noted the power difference isn’t massive. I had a 2002 base PT that I took up to almost 300k before I sold it to some friends. I wish I hadn’t but that is what it is. I currently daily drive my Mom’s originally 2004 PT cruiser 5 speed touring. It has 268k miles on it now. My Mom has a 2006 5 speed GT that is mainly used as a tow vehicle behind an RV. In the end treat these vehicles for what they are, do the proper maintenance (timing belt), and they will serve you well

I have way more confidence jumping on the interstate; It makes a huge difference hearing the "ROAaRrrr" of the gt over 'EEeeeR" the pt! Are your still driving yours? I bought mine for $5, G's abt 8 years ago . I'm just now running into some issues and it's hard to find an enthusiast with the same MM&Y. It can be a hard sell on friends... but...People are amazed at how versatile and rugged it really is when I flip the front passenger seat flips down to slide something like a ladder or refrigerator in.

Number one rule I use in turbo cars or truck. Has to be a 5 or 6 speed. We can reach are power curve. Autos have there own minds. not made for change. Example. Friend had a Ford lighting. Auto super charger. I had 1990 silverado N/a. Engine was ported and tuned. Big cam.intake was sweet with 750 holey. Ngk plugs. loved the from my honda Atc days. 5 speed with performance clutch. lets just say. quater and mile. looks like he was sleeping.

Nice video + info. 👍👍👍 Old video, but I just found it. 5 1/2 years ago I was looking for a low cost car to replace my Ford Explorer with a blown head gasket..... I always gave my mom 💩💩💩 about her owning a PT, .....But,...... eventually ended up with one myself. 😅😅😅 I wanted a GT, but in San Diego area, finding a car that isn't torn up mechanically or visually, for good money is VERY difficult. And all the Turbo PT's were trashed + driven hard, mostly by younger people. And even the older owners cars were not that clean or mechanically that great either. On top of that everyone wanted alot more for the Turbos regardless. I ended up with an 06, N/A, Automatic, "Touring Edition" 🙄, in Magnesium Green, 2nd owner, + 89k miles for $2,250 out the door, tax + lic included. 😁👍👍👍 Very Clean, but, ..... NOT a looker by ANY stretch though. 😅😅🥺 I just fool myself, by telling myself, it's a sleeper. 😂😅😳🥺😁 I still wish I had a GT, but, for what I paid, + What I got, I'm happy. 😁 If you take care of them, they will take care of you. 👍 I've definitely put money into replacement / maintenance + acouple upgrades, but it's always got me to where I needed + back, + never left me stranded. Fingers crossed. I do drive it hard, even though just an N/A, but I do suprise some people. 😁 One more thing...... I do notice a huge difference in my mom's 01 Limited N/A Automatic's suspension feeling WAY softer/smoother....... But, not sure if thats true with all, or I just need shocks/struts. About the only thing I haven't got to yet. 😅😁🥺 I know it's old, but thanks for the video. 👍👍👍

Thanks for your videos. I just got a PT Cruiser identical to the 07, but with pinstripes (coming off soon). I've loved the styling of these cars since they came out, and never understood the hate. Anyway, have you had any issues with the reclining mechanisms in the front seats of your PT's? Neither works in mine. I can feel it releasing on the side with the handle, but the side toward the center doesn't budge. Both seats act the same. I'm assuming it's got to be something with the linkage between the two sides. I plan to pull them to see if I can figure it out. Keep up the good work.

anybody else notice that this video is exactly the length of a 1/4 mile in feet? 1320. nice video man. what is wrong with your a/c? does the compressor clutch engage when you switch it on inside the car? it may be a fuse or a broken wire. hopefully the actual compressor itself isn't bad. it's easy to recharge if you can get that compressor spinning. to test, basically just get 12 volts to the compressor clutch and see if it engages.
@JimmyCruiser_CGE8 жыл бұрын
Hey!! I didn't notice that! Haha, completely coincidental, that's cool. I'm not exactly sure whats up with my a/c, I was told by a mechanic that I would essentially need a new system because my lines were pretty rotted and my compressor was bad. I haven't really looked into it much though, I don't mind personally going with the windows down haha. But now that I'm kinda trying to selling the car it would be nice if it was working, also on days when you feel like you're swimming in the air lol, so I may look into it some more. That is a good idea, I should mess around and see if its engaging and working, then maybe try to charge it a little and see what happens. It would make a good video anyways lol. Thanks for watching dude!

i get you had a limited budget and vehicle availability, albeit automatic is never the way to go on any turbo motor, and that's not "i am so bro, i only drive manual" viewpoint, it comes from the wear on parts by doing what you were doing during the test, which i imagine you do regularly: wearing out the clutch packs and brakes by stomping on the accelerator to "launch" from a stop, or manipulating the gear selector to delay or downshift the transmission. also, SRT4's never came in automatic because Dodge knew better than to put a FWD turbo saloon into production with an automatic transmission knowing there were going to be a bunch of numpties hooning and faffing about in them.

@JimmyCruiser_CGE7 жыл бұрын
Yeah... I've heard that as well. I haven't had any issues with mine drove it all last summer without an issue at all, made a trip 2 hours from home to a car show the temperature was in the late 80s and it never got warm. But I'm still being careful lol. The non turbo is a little easier to maintenance I must admit, but coming from a car guy its sooooo worth it to have the turbo lol.
@Skyethur7 жыл бұрын
I noticed during summer in california whenever we drive in the mountains area they have a sign warning to turn off AC to prevent overheating when going uphill so it's a good thing they warn us ahead of time.. Well I dont about cars much all I know is how to check normal levels lol but I do know about science and physics which states if the object moves fast it needs to produce a lot of heat and too much heats degrade the atoms over time which means in cars it may need maintenance often. But if this car is meant for speed I think chrysler engineer knows that it needs good cooling system which i assumed this car has good cooling system to support the turbo charge.
@JimmyCruiser_CGE7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I forgot about that out in California! Somebody has told me that before lol! I'd like to visit there someday. But yeah, that's about the size of it. Just like people, a lot of hard work on a hot day can make us overheat, especially if we don't drink enough haha. Chrysler, I believe, did put a slightly bigger radiator in the turbo models as well as, of course, the inter-cooler for the turbo. Still probably not the best setup but if you keep an eye on the coolant temp it it should be fine!

With my N/A 5speed I can beat my friends Gt Turbo in a quarter mile.Is all in the driver. I smash him on the launch. I can wind mine out at 65 in second just before a redline. I beat him a car length. Car is stock. ngk plugs. and I weigh 400 pounds.go figure.all in the driver. stick shift is a plus. Dam pts are just flat out slow. very low power for a 2.4
@JimmyCruiser_CGE8 жыл бұрын
Very true, it's all in the driver. I think having the 5 speed makes a huge difference too, especially with the N/A. Interesting to hear. But yes, I agree that overall they can be pretty slow for the displacement. Thanks for watching!

+Channel C.G.E. Very Good Vid! nice layout. The only verb I would add is. put the camera on the spedo during accel. next we need to graduate to a better car. I had a Eclipse 1999 gsx turbo. or we can find a eagle talon or a dodge stealth. all of them are pretty cheap or fun. Or we can get a fbody 350 and put one big turbo on it and nutbon ourselfs :-)

+Charles sylvia Thank you!! I should have thought of that, putting a go pro on the speedo, that would have worked out nicely! Next time! :) And yes I have to agree, I really enjoy my PT GT but I'm also ready to move on. Trying to sell it currently, we shall see!! Great suggestions for future rides, much appreciated! I like the Talons and the 90s Eclipses too, they were neat.

Still trying to understand why you personally like these cars;) I like the looks but the build quality sucks ballzzzz
@JimmyCruiser_CGE8 жыл бұрын
Lol! I agree they aren't the best built cars, but over all these things are practical and pretty much reliable. And, the price is right at the moment for, like I said in the video easily an under $5,000 vehicle. I'm also on the love end as far as the looks go, I think the retro idea is awesome. Some really hate it, and I understand that haha. Thanks for watching!
