173 hp is for the 4 cylinder version which comes standard on the front wheel drive version. The all wheel drive version has the V6 which has 283 hp. It may also be an option for front wheel drive.

I have a 2015 Dodge Journey Crossroad (3.6l V6) and love it! It's given us 43,000 trouble free miles so far. Not everyone has kids to lug around in a third row, so our stays down most of the time... which provides more cargo room than we ever really need. It has a slight "minivan" vibe on the outside, but the inside and the drive itself is pretty solid, much like any other mid size crossover. I have heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, V6 engine, touch screen, moon roof, etc. fully loaded and we paid 25k brand new. Can't beat the value!
@100RentalCars6 жыл бұрын
25k fully loaded? Well done! Glad to hear you like it. And thanks for sharing your thoughts. I only keep my rental cars for about 2 days, so it's nice to hear from actual owners. And I agree that this looks minivan-like. But only a little bit. Plus, as a proud minivan driver (I have two young kids,) I don't think that's such a bad thing.
@CoryMatthew876 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are never what MSRP advertises. The crossroad package typically sells for 25-26k, I've never seen one here in North Carolina sell for the price shown on Dodge's website. The Journey isn't a luxury vehicle by any means but considering all you get for the smaller price tag, I'd say a great value!!

This is a queen of the rental fleets, but it has some party tricks up its sleeve. If I'm not mistaken, the front passenger seat folds down flat, and the seat bottom opens up to hold a pizza box. The rear seats have floor storage bins and I think some of them were outfitted with cooler capabilities.

Really thorough review. I have done a lot of research and since I'm not a crowd follower, I lean toward these type of alternative choices. The Journey and Mitsubishi's Outlander both get rave reviews from their owners. They are not top-tech, but nobody needs that stuff enough to pay $10-20K extra for that or the status of an Acura or Lexus.
@larrymoore85646 жыл бұрын
I have a 2017 crossroad plus, and while it is the same body style as the original in 2009, I have definitely enjoyed it over the past year. Mine has heated seats and steering wheel, the coolers underneath the floor in the second row, navigation, AWD and automatic climate control (looks like your rental has ACC as well). IT fits my needs perfectly, I don't have kids but the third row is nice if you need it in a pinch. I don't have any complaints aside from the transmission which acts odd sometimes. Also worth noting is you can get about 6-8k off of MSRP, I paid 31 for mine and the MSRP was 39k. For all the features it is the cheapest 3 row suv you can buy.
@100RentalCars6 жыл бұрын
I had heard about the hidden coolers. I'm pretty sure my rental had them and I'm kicking myself for not discovering it on my own. And someone else also mentioned that the front row passengers seat fold down into a desk/pizza box holder? Crazy. Sounds like the Crossroad Plus has even more cool options. Any chance you'll film your own review? I'd love to check it out. Oh, and kudos on getting 8k off the MSRP. Well done, Sir.
@rdtryan6 жыл бұрын
The horsepower number is actually 283hp it's the 3.6 Pentastar. The 2.4 in the Journey makes 173hp. You can tell the differences from the exhaust. The v6 has dual exhaust and the 4 cylinder has 1 exhaust.

I have a friend who has a 2016 Journey SE (base model) but has some options like Bluetooth and satellite radio, and alloy wheels... it has the 2.4L I4 and is Front Wheel Drive (FWD). I've rode in it a lot and it's very comfortable and economical. Even though it's quite dated, it still has enough technology features to keep most happy, and is quite affordable. But I still think no standard Bluetooth or satellite radio is ridiculous in 2017 (18). BTW your rental is a Crossroads Plus because it has the (older but still good) 8.4 touch screen... it doesn't say 'Plus' but it is. I must say I like the Journey a lot! :)

I own the 2017 Crossroad base trim model - its not 173 hp but more like 280+ hp. Mileage is around 15 avg in town and 25 on the hwy. I wish it got 19 in town! It's a great hwy cruiser though - great acceleration, very smooth riding, and nimble for such a large vehicle. In town, the ride is not jarring over smaller bumps and potholes - unlike other smaller SUV's that throw you around (Ford Escape, etc). I drove the 4 cylinder, and it's not even close in terms of power and acceleration and the mileage is not that much better - I would spend the additional 1700 and get the V6 - (adds about 1000 to the price on the used market). The Crossroad base model has solid black leather seats, but no power or heated seats, and it has the smaller 4" screen with no back-up camera. The paint is a solid color - instead of pearl - but it has the same wheels and outer trim. However, I do regret not getting the Crossroads Plus with the back-up camera and larger 8" infotainment screen, but I thought it wouldn't make much difference in the end - now I am researching back-up camera's :(
@100RentalCars6 жыл бұрын

I just returned a Dodge Journey to Avis. The one I had was a GT, the fully loaded one. For how expensive it was I was very unimpressed. The mpg was lackluster, it wasn’t overly comfortable. I did like the engine, sounded nice and had decent acceleration. The back up camera had to be one of the worst I’ve ever experienced, very grainy. I actually find the one you had much more attractive than the GT. I totally agree with you about the center gauge cluster screen, it leaves much to be desired. I wish there was an eco mode, I think this car would’ve benefitted from that.

We had one of these as a rental, and after a week, we couldn't wait to get rid of it. For a "family car" it has barely any functionality. The cabin feels cramped, and a child car seat barely fits in the centre of the second row. It wouldn't fit behind the front seats. Also, on our particular car, we always had to slam all the doors shut, or they wouldn't latch completely. I also found the transmission awkward and clunky to shift. Although our rental was brand new with 200 kms on it, the service awd and check engine lights came on almost right away.

That emergency brake foot lever looks to be in a horrible spot. It's big and it looks like it is right in the way of the left foot rest. To use the left foot rest look like you have to slide your foot under the pedal. Might sound like a small thing to some, but when doing long drives, I like to put my left foot on the foot rest.

Great video as usual! Not particularly fond of the Journey since we rented one that was filthy and slid down a sorta icy hill in park. I don't really like the chrome accent on the front that is supposed to look like a pushbar. At the end of the day, these are just denial minivans like an Explorer or a Traverse lol
@100RentalCars7 жыл бұрын
+LTMedia Thanks! Sliding down a hill in park?!? Ummmmm, no thank you. And "denial minivans." Ha! Love that. And I agree about the chrome. It's kinda like putting lipstick on a pig. Then again, the chrome is one of the major upgrades you get when you pay more for the Crossroad.
@CoryMatthew876 жыл бұрын
Minivans aren't for everyone... and crossovers aren't, either. Nothing wrong with either segment, just personal preference. What's to deny?!
@LTMedia6 жыл бұрын
Cory Herd I just don't get how they're so much better than minivans or sedans or hatchbacks. They're glorified station wagons. That doesn't mean they're awful though.
@CoryMatthew876 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure they're "better", but if you compare the Dodge Journey Crossroad to the Dodge Grand Caravan, I do think the DJ looks better. From the vehicles shape, to the bumper being positioned higher up. Though if you have lots of kids to haul and plan on using the 3rd row often, the van is the way to go. I myself don't have kids so I don't need the sliding minivan doors and a large 3rd row.
@LTMedia6 жыл бұрын
I'll agree with you on that, the Journey does look better. I just don't get why people buy the crossovers if they actually need a minivan (for more people and hauling stuff). It's all about that image thing lol
