Favorite doom games are 1, 2, 64, 2016 and eternal. It sticks to the same formula and it does it flawlessly. Such a good time. But personally i love eternal the most, the flow of combat is so buttery smooth and it just yeets you into the fun zone if you can swap weapons fast enough and can dash out of danger then back into it

Raycasting was the method used by Wolfenstein 3D. It is a primitive system that restricted the maps of that game to 90 degree angles and a single floor height. Doom actually uses a technique called Binary Space Partitioning that is much more complex and allows the game to have floors and walls of varying height and angles.

God, this is so wrong. His name is William Joseph Blazkowicz III, the great grandson of BJ (the name skipped a generation). The DOOM novels are not all canonical, which should be obvious, as we don't get the option to take a berserk pack straight through episodes 1 and 2 and attempt to fight the Cyberdemon only to to go back and get a BFG (which is first found in episode 3). The Unmaker is more powerful than the BFG. And Commander Keen is Doomguy's FATHER-- BJ's son is Arthur Blaze (Arthur Kenneth Blazkowicz), Commander Keen is Arthur's son, and Doomguy is Billue Blaze's (William Joseph Blazkowicz II's) son. It's so painful that nobody can make a DOOM history video that's actually correct. I can't watch this any longer.

4:34 Doom does actually not use raycasting unlike Wolfenstein 3d, it uses Binary Space Partitioning, if you played it with the original engine it would look weird if you looked up or down since it was rendered in 2d, but with source ports and enabled mouse movement on the z axis, you can see everything in 3d, while the only thing that changed is how the sprites of the game are calculated into a picture. The original engine is also why there weren't rooms on top of each other
