An bonus Texas fact for all of you. The Texan Revolution was the last in a string of revolutions that swept across Mexico in response to the centralization of the state under then president/dictator Santa Anna. These rebellions were calling for a return to a federalist style government. The Texans shared the same sentiment, in addition to the slavery.

Nowadays it seems like more people from Texas are more proud to be from Texas than people from other states are proud to be American. it's just sad that some people say it's even bad to be patriotic when they're some of the luckiest people to be born in a country where they have the God-given right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. and that's why Texas is so popular because it embodies that right.

In all my 72 years, I've never heard the 48 states referred to as the counterminous US. What I have heard is the contiguous US, the Lower 48 (by Alaska), and the Mainland (by Hawaii). There are also the deserts of Arizona, namely, the Mojave (moe-HAH-vee) and Sonoran (suh-NORE-un). Just for the record, 'hurricane' refers to one of the big storms in the Atlantic, 'cyclone' in the Indian, and typhoon in the Pacific. At 26:11, you stated that Irving is just outside Texas. Oops! It's just outside Dallas, being a suburb on the west edge of "Big D". For many of us, because of all the scandal, the "beloved" program Dallas was an embarrassment to millions.

The Comanches pushed the Lipan and Mescalero Apaches from the Plains after a nearly hundred years of warfare. The longstanding enmity between those two is reflected by the names by which they described one another - the Comanches called the Mescalero and Lipan Apaches “esikwita” (gray excrement) whilst the Apaches called the Comanches Indassene (from indas, enemy).

Dr. Pepper was born and introduced in 1885, in Waco, Texas, 1 year before Coca-Cola. Making it the oldest recognizable soda pop in the nation. Bonus fact is that Dr. Pepper took off on a national level at the same time as hamburgers, hot dogs on buns and ice cream on cones.

Correction: Though Mexico forbade slavery for Texacans their constitution allowed 99 year terms of indentured servitude. (There were no “slaves” in Texas at the Revolution of the Texas Republic from Mexico!) Not that it made any difference.

I am Nigerian and always find it cringy when Sam talks about slavery as a racist concept. Slavery was the order of the world at the time. Skin colour was not the cause of Slavery. Slavery was prevalent in almost every settlement including amongst Africans..Slavery in Nigeria became outlawed in 1930. until then it was the culture. Please stop all this patronising white guilt nonsense.

As a Texan I have a theory about why the speed limit is so high. We just got tired of hearing everyone bitch about how long it takes to drive through our state. Still, buckle up for a long ride and don’t forget....pull over and let someone going faster than you pass and if someone pulls over to let you pass, remember to give a little wave as a thank you. Also, Lubbock is pronounced luh-buck.
