My father and I took my Vietnam War veteran grandfather to Washington D.C. a few years ago for the first time for him to see the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. He got drafted in the late 1960s and he got injured by shrapnel from a land mine (in addition to getting shot), so he got sent home and received a Purple Heart. However, 6 of his buddies didn't make it back home, so before the trip he made a list of all of their names and where they were located on the wall. As he found each on the wall, he got very emotional knowing that he managed to come home (though injured), get married, have 3 sons, and live another 50 years, but 6 of his friends didn't.

About 'fact' #71: I honestly do not understand where this came from, because as a Vietnamese, I have never in the entirety of my life thus far, heard something remotely near to "American War" where I live, it's definitely a mistranslation of words. I am honestly shocked by how this has rooted so far, in Vietnam, it's called ordinarily "Vietnam War", "The War" or in propaganda "War against America to Save the Country". American War is not used, it has never been used and yea
@neildamonjones29564 жыл бұрын
Actually, some Vietnamese people do informally say "American War" instead of saying "War against America to Save the Country". Perhaps you live in a part of Vietnam where I this is not common practice.

@@neildamonjones2956 not quite, then let me ask you, what does that "American War" mean in vietnamese, translated? I've been spending my times travelling for a while now and have interacted with many people, some of them are pretty fluent in history and absolutely none of them say something remotely near to "American War"

You know something; it’s funny when you think about it… The majority of the wars that the United States have been in has been helping out other countries. We weren’t involved in wars that were declared on us directly from the beginning. I understand and realize that we had to intervene in some of those wars, but, had we just stayed to ourselves, we would have avoided world wars one, two, Korea, Vietnam, and the gulf war.
