Expert chef Frank from the Institute of Culinary Education and home cook Emily are swapping materials and hoping for the best! We gave ketchup ambassador Emily $101 worth of ingredients and Frank's recipe notebook, then asked her to recreate his omelet as best she could. To lend a helping hand, food scientist Rose dialed in for a brief tutorial and pep talk. On the other side, Frank received a meager $8 worth of supplies and tried to improvise his way up to gourmet. Who’s got the huevos to succeed under these mixed up circumstances?

Cracking eggs doesn't have a perfect solution, it depends on the egg. Generally storebought eggs have a thick enough shell, that hitting on the side of your bowl will work the best, but for eggs straight from the farm, hitting them on a flat surface works the best. So when a chef says don't use the rim of your bowl, its because they have better ingredients.
@viniciusbarros1768

I think it's just simple to always use a flat surface tbh. No risk of egg shells flying in the middle of the egg :D

@@viniciusbarros1768 You'd have to smack it pretty hard to do that, but as long as your method works, there's no need to reinvent it. I always just lightly crack the side and then I crack it open with me fingers.

Food should be based solely on taste and the way the flavors roll over your pallet. I haven’t really though of making a super over the top omelette. If you give me a day to think about it I could give you something that would be truly delicious and not overly pricey just for the sake of being expensive.
