Love seeing your progress and you should be so proud when you are finish! Our home, we started from scratch, cleared the area for the house, completed the plans to get the house built, hired a general contractor to get it built, then laid all the hard wood floor, complete all the ceramic tile work all the bathrooms, and we did all the interiors painting. I also installed all the plumbing system for houses geothermal system. It was a lot of work, but well worth it. We have been in it for 18 years and hope to have many more! Seeing the beginning again, I’m so happy you and we don’t have to go through that work again because we now know that just cleaning wasn’t going to work, and that hard, hot and dirty, labor was ahead. I had both oil based and water based plain polyurethane in my houses. The first house the oak floor was new and light. I wanted to keep that light color so mixed white and a little green paint and rubbed it into the floors by hand and then polyurethaned it. It worked, at least for the 10 years we lived there. I have never stained the floors. I think I wrote before that a creamy white wall is bright, but restful and then you can use bright colors in furniture, rugs and art to liven it as you choose.

put some doors over the plumbing access. just find a place that sells cabinet doors, build a frame for them. then paint to match the walls. easy access to plumbing when you need. You are doing a great job love seeing young people saving older homes.

I vote "Simply White" or the color of the lower room. My first "home" in the summer of '77 was a '73 VW Beetle & I put a bowl of charcoal briquettes under the driver seat. Wow! You have worked so HARD but it shows. Your casa is looking so good and you still have your sense of humor which amazes me. I think you should paint the hall a hint of some color like a pinkish beige or light teal. Maybe a color that works with the bathroom. I agree, native animals should be removed before your furbabies move in and start exploring. Take care. Be safe.

I think you need to live in the space and keep the hallway white until you see how the light fairs over time in there. Live with it a little, once you get your bearings and all your things in and up, you can decide then on the walls. So voting keep it white...for now.

Floor Test Patch - I really like the stain color you tested. It's more in keeping with the original stain of the house and a good medium color. Critters in the yard - I'd be concerned also for the dogs. I live in Pasco County, Florida - I'm in the city limits of a small town. I have mostly possums that frequent the yard, probably because I have outside cats. They can probably smell the food and there's always fresh water available. I do not leave any food out unattended, purposely to not attract critters or other cats to the yard. When I 1st moved here, 15 years ago there were many raccoons. A couple of neighbors began trapping them, and relocating them to Hillsborough River State Park, to be more in their natural environment. Knock on wood, I haven't seen one in my yard in a while. Chickens - this town has free roaming chickens in the city limits - they are a real nuisance. I won't get into all that they do but, they are very destructive and loud - all the time. Voting on the hall color - I like the white, it's nice and bright but think a soft pale gray would be nicer and not show the wear & tear as much.

The Feng Shui Guy says if you have to put the head of your bed in front of windows, it's best to have drapes or a headboard to keep the monkeys from jumping through the window on your head! 😂 I love that guy!

Leave the hallway white, you've worked hard to bring the lightness back to the house. I think once you put your personal things in, white will set them off. I have been decorating for a couple of weeks and had forgotten how back breaking painting can be. Keep up the good work. Re cupboard, you could cut a piece of mdf large enough to cover both access areas and route grooves, screws on corners.

Great job!!!!! I agree with every decision you guys have made because the decisions are for you for your house and your purposes!!! Your house that you are going to live in is going to be perfectly suited to you as you need it to be. If you had really really wanted a brand new builder grade house you can always go to another city where they were much cheaper but to be very honest this house is perfect for you guys and you guys should be commended for restoring a house that needs to show its history and the craftsmanship that was used to build it to begin with. Great Job!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Stairs and the hallway should be the same color as the main room with the fireplace. Just a little bit of information if this helps our house has plaster walls and ceilings as well and we painted everything white and later we had a problem around the kitchen dining room family room area which is all open to itself The walls reacting or collecting either something from the kitchen or some type of a humidity it's come out in different colors at different times and we've been able to paint over it but it comes back. Unable to figure out what the cause is we're probably going to go to a little bit of a darker color We like light grays or light sage grays which works with our color scheme. If you have unique antique furniture lamps rugs tactiles and artwork the white walls makes a great canvas to show off your treasures. I will be very excited to see what y'all finally come up with as all of your decisions have been amazing and current as well as living timeless with the years of this house. Colour for the stairway shold be a light bright colour as it will help reflect the natural light. White is probably the best but any light colour shoud do the same. By the way please don't tell me your not going to sand the floor with that tiny belt sander. Can you not hire a floor sander which would do the job in a fraction of the the time a give you a much better finish. Just make sure there are no snails sticking up or flush as they will rip the sanding belts to bits. Fantastic work guys. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧

0:49 : Please, please, please, use a brush!! It will look a 1,000% better. A roller will always give a slight orange peel effect. Just stroke the brush with the grain, then any strokes will disappear.

I watch another video and they swear by a product called "Feed- n-Wax. She uses it on all old wood furniture and doors to make it look like new. I thought of you and thought it might be useful. I can show you what happens when you unintentionally get your hand too close to the blade when using a power saw. 😫 Get and ALWAYS use a push stick with your saw. It takes a very long time for your hand to heal, and close to a year for the nerves to heal.
