True story, a very proud teenager bought a rabbit and a cage from the local pet store with her very 1st paycheck! (1987 is the year) I was so excited and loved that beautiful spotted mini lop bunny. She potty trained herself in a flower pot and I thought she was brilliant as no one ever mentioned it was possible. She died within 4 months. I was so sad and blamed my mother for years (I may not of asked permission... feel in love on site!) Fast forward to adulthood and I learned they need hay! I was like HAY, why? I had NO IDEA and the pet store never said a thing, gave me pellets. I forgave my mom and stopped shopping a pet food chains! I tell everyone this story for their FYI😕

The 'bunnies can be 90% litter-box trained' thing made me laugh. In general, yes. But there's also some bunnies that are just out of control. One of my (now elderly) bunnies has had an incredibly weak bladder for YEARS and keeps peeing all around the room (he also picked up the habbit of slobbering up his pee sometime in the last two years. Ew.) One of the others just really likes getting comfy on my couch and using that as a litter box. Or me. That happened today. Right on my chest. (They have their spacey enclosure in the living room, but the couch is now fenced of to them most of the time, because I can't always keep it covered with picnic blankets. Which, by the way, lifehack: Picnic blankets are large, usually waterproof, pretty and usually washable. Great bunny-proof covers or blankets.) Love the video, very informative!

Ok, so I get why you stressed the heatstroke issue because it's super important. However, I think my rabbits are freaks who like heat because my house has a sunroom which will get into the high 80s regularly. It has white tile flooring. My bunnies will go out there and lay in the shade at high noon to take a nap OFTEN even though they have free roam of the entire house which is significantly cooler during the day. I think it depends a lot on what the rabbit is used to/adapted to or grown up with as far as heat goes but I could be wrong. My rabbits get mad at me though when I've tried to offer the cool water bottle. They want nothing to do with it. The tiles are enough for them.

He's a very clean rabbit and loses his mind if another one messes up his enclosure.

Just wanted to share this to say that its possible to halve a dog with a bunny! Even a pit bull, my boy will diminish any assumptions of them being mean and vicious breeds. Many many years ago, no idea how old I was really but maybe 7? My grandma got me a lop eared rabbit (Cinnamon). My grandma grew up on a farm, so the only way she knew to take care of a rabbit was to keep it in a hutch outside. So at the beginning of his life he was an outdoor rabbit, and I would take him out on a harness to hop around and nibble at the grass. Thankfully he was never hurt, but he never bolted at anything scary. Probably a 7(ish) year old being his primary carer desensitized him to all kinds of sudden movements and scary things, bless his little heart. He would just hop around. Later in his life we didn't do that anymore because we moved and got a house where he could have more of what people use now for bunnies, an indoor area fenced in with a doggie pen. He still had a multi-story hutch, he could just hop in and whenever he wanted to. Idk why it was imprinted on us that rabbits need a hutch, but that's how it was lol Uh, anyway, all this is all backstory to say, I don't know about now, but back then the leashes they would have with the harnesses were very very stretchy. At very slight pressure is would stretch, so actually Cinnamon never had any rough pressure on him when he was on his harness and at least people made that effort with the leashes. If he ever started hopping off somewhere he wasn't supposed to go he would get the lightest pressure possible on his harness, and would then hop somewhere else to eat his grass. I still 100% agree I'd never recommend this now, he didn't happen to, but if he had gotten scared and tried to bolt, or even if accidental pressure was put on him, he could have gotten very hurt.

I modified a harness for my rabbit because I sometimes take her places where she needs one. She's my ESA, but I wanted one that would be safe and comfy for her and found she can get out of most of them straight from the store anyway. I make sure she's in a carrier if I'm in an unfamiliar place. That policy saved her life once, when someone had their big dog at an outing I took her to. The dog would have attacked her if she had been hopping around on a harness. I didn't stay long because she was upset by the dog's enthusiasm for her.

When people say that rabbits are very hard to litter train before they get neutered i am always so confused because i adopted a 1 and a half year old bunny that has not been neutered yet and he knew exactly where to go to the bathroom from day one. The one thing ive noticed is that he needs the premium potty training litter to be 100% trained because when it's not provided he has frequent accidents on the floor. I think it really depends on the personality of the bunny

When a 6 yr old rabbit dies, it’s usually due to it not being spayed ( female ) mainly because they tend to develop urinary cancer but males also tend to develop cancer if not neutered. Rabbits don’t belong in cages, an indoor enclosure is fine as long as they have lots of room to hop around. Also I disagree with not interacting with others your new rabbit on day one since you gotta establish a relationship with it and let it know you are the provider.

This review brought forward some terrible memories of my friend's rabbit. A few years back I visited her house (we were about 18). The rabbit was an adult, a very small breed, in a cage that was just a little bigger than what she could lie down and fully stretch out in (my dwarf hamster's cage is much bigger than what that rabbit was in). There was nothing in there except for a little tray, a bowl, food bottle and a hay holder (nothing to chew on). She wasn't let out much more than for cuddling on the bed. But the very worst thing - and the one that I IMMEDIATELY had to correct my friend on and hopefully she took my word for it - was that she had no hay (the holder was empty) and when I held the rabbit, I could clearly feel the entire ribcage and spine. At that time, my friend had some misgivings about her own weight (she was still in the normal range, but always felt she was too fat) and did some crazy things to her own diet like not eating for several days. She told me that she was afraid the bunny would get fat, too, and letting her have hay all the time felt like a bad idea. So she only gave her a small handful a day. I do not know what happened to the rabbit afterwards, because I very rarely talk to that friend (like once a year or less) and I either never remembered to ask or i asked her and forgot about it since.

I just got my second rabbit and I think my second one is a female too, I heard that when getting them fixed that they can die sometimes when they are waking up, and also my vet that I take them too said that they usually don’t fix the females, so I wanted to know if you know anything about that?

Harrison my bunny is not neutered and he is bonded with Amelia (who is). We didn't want to put him through the surgery because he is an older bun. Unfortunately that means he is not fully litter trained. He mostly pees in the litter box but he poops wherever, even though I have the hay in the litter box. He eats a little bit of pellets because he has weight issues.
