Socrates is the opposite of Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha was a nihilist who believed nothing was permanent. Socrates believed it was necessary for an individual to go beyond change to what does not change ie to what was permanent. Heraclitus believed like Siddhartha that nothing remained the same. Parmenedes believed that nothing changed ie everything remained the same. Socrates believed that our universe had changeable elements and non changeable elements. By finding the non changeable elements ( Ideas/ Forms ) Socrates believed believed that humans would find wisdom. Each person gained permanence through adhering to what was permanent. Siddhartha believed the goal of life was nirvana ie "nir" (no) "vana" (state) ie non existence ie nihilism was the goal not existence.

You kind of have to change the commonly understood meaning of nihlism to make that argument. I'd also say (and unfortunately I can't remember where exactly) the Buddha says that extinction is also a delusion, so he wasn't aiming for a kind of "non-state"

but beyond the distinctions ,the common thread that unites them all is that , the need for a dialogue on the nature of reality ,to rectify the disorder and they are all really pointing to a threshold of a great secret door, if we can travel along this path then we might be able to cross the threshold and experience that which can not be shared....

Therefore, that which is, is all - inclusive. ignorance - incomplete - suffering - frustration - disappointment Two in dialogue is the ultimate nature of Reality.
