Always time very well spent. And btw his handwriting is so beautiful. Beautiful handwriting is so respectful of the words, the topic, and the reader.

The brief moment there is no thought! The Enlightenment. Excellent explanation. Very difficult to explain by logic, but somewhere there, it must be. We know that we are not that image. (i.e. saying it is a mirage, which is not real). A direct understanding that this is reality. Thought is the sickness of the Mind. Past reflections, present experiences and future imaginations are understood clearly, that it is not me. There is nothing to behold as me, no event taken as mine, no physical body belongs to me. Excellent! Thank you very much !

"Thought is the sickness of the mind"??? Without thought, there is no mind. Not even consciousness (the Hindu mystics got this completely wrong), since consciousness is always intentional. What is 'pure consciousness' supposed to be? It has no history, hence no individuality, it has no world available, nothing to experience but... itself: eternal navel-gazing of an empty mind in search of itself? Great??

Pierre Grimes is a wealth of knowledge! Would have liked to have heard him talk at length about Plato! BTW, regarding Chinul's book "Korean Approach to Zen", how does Hwadu differ from Hua Tou / Gongfu meditation?
@lukecash35009 ай бұрын
He does all the time. There are many lectures of his on Plato, and his literature.

it's the 'intent-ful' reflective expression - In simple notation, in language that releases these thought trains from the unconscious - and retrieves our power. in a sense.

Excellent talk. Pierre knows his Plotinus and he knows his Buddhism. But both are very somewhat opposite. He's great because he can talk about two contradictory doctrines without argument.

The Collected Works of Chinul .... wow, expensive to get a copy these days....
@garypuckettmuse2 ай бұрын
that's funny. i was just looking for that myself. however i did find a pdf online of the "abridged" version which was written by the same translator, same publisher. It gives a reasonable history of Zen in Korea and its roots, then a reasonable biography of Chinul and then a few selected writings which I have to assume are standouts as exemplar or highlight some particular points? it's 250 pages or so and I was just thinking of printing but if you like to read long texts online it's right there in a nice, pristine copy. btw Amazon suggests it will let you know when more copies of the collected works come in and the paperback is 20 bucks but that might be the day after never. google "Tracing Back the Radiance pdf" and it pops right up. May all beings be free.

Check 1 too... I'm guessing he's Jewish meaning mixed with Hashemite or Lebanese like the Bible says Jezreel sons of Ahad they now a day's change identity like they're last names say Allah's are King's , Al Bin in other terms as the Real Majesty of Spain and they expanded from one to another like the Asian Dynasty in the far east most likely influenced the Asian minor known as the Middle East it's all tribal and when 2 world's collide they produce a combination of each other's traditions but other's are too deep for the other that separates the identity from it's origin to branch off into it's own tree not necessarily in the same wilderness but region are next to each one but with them each producing different fruit they are still fruit but a bit foreign to the variety but not the seed and some are too foreign that the climate just can't make them bush grow in amongst the tree. So reality we are not able to co-exist if the soil being based region poisons the growth of the variety and produce tumble weeds this is not easy to define as vagrants but they also have variety although we can't grasp the concept in a frequency that flows from one to another if their be bad wiring in the connection leaving ground wires to be non effective as negative and positive but if this is not clear to either of the 2 ground wires are important to the electrical power just without the amount of currency needed by the other 2 it's force is also found in nature its natural than the other 2. Peace ✌🏼

How is the nonduality of Plotinus the opposite of the nondual understanding of Zen? Both exude the unmistakable scent of the perennial philosophy in my book.
@Navili50211 ай бұрын
@@dojonane Plotinus is a "dualist" and all it takes is a quick look at Ennead III to see this. You cannot conceive of Providence in a pure nondual system.
@dojonane10 ай бұрын
@@Navili502 Plotinus' monistic insights have been substantiated and appreciated by countless authors, philosophers and mystics. "You cannot conceive of providence in a pure nondual system" totally eschews any nuance or "apparent" subject object experience from all of the great nondual wisdom traditions. I think your contention is dismissive of much more than merely Plotinus', but entire teaching traditions the world over.
