Radio recording of The Wave (103.1 KSQN Coalville) in Salt Lake City from November 2017. Aircheck features Chet Tapp and Andrea as the two on-air hosts over a four-hour period.
New wave music has a special place in Utah radio history. In the mid-1980s, two stations (KJQ and KCGL) played the music. These stations came and went. Many of the original jocks would later be involved with the creation of X96 (KXRK) which still plays alternative rock music to this day. In the early 2000s, a few of the old jocks resurrected classic alternative and new wave on 103.1 under the banner "103.1 KJQ" (call letters KJQN). That station lasted a handful of years before disappearing and being replaced by a variety of formats (Jack FM, a simulcast of 1430 KLO, and a short-lived soft rock station called Sunny). The letters were changed from KJQN to KSQN somewhere along the road.
New wave gets another spin as many of the original KCGL and KJQ jocks created 103.1 The Wave in 2016. Here's a four-hour sample; scoped of course, for copyright purposes.
