Shawn Rhymes here, and I'm enjoying this video. Way back in the day I got a ride home in a little 2 seater, front and back, and I loved it. 10 years after that I worked with an old man who had his pilots license. He told me a story about trying to fly over the Blue Mountains in Washington going to Boise in a Piper Cub. That didn't work well in a strong head wind. He turned it around and went back to Walla Walla. That was decades ago. Now I have a nephew that teaches flying in that part of the country. Thanks for posting this video.

My dad was in the Air Force and told me a story about trying to fly a PBY 3:46 from Brownsville, through El Paso to California. The wind was so strong just past awl Paso he had to go back there and waited four days before trying and making it finally.

I didn't know these aircraft had a way to spin up the rotors. I thought you had to rely on ground speed for the relative airflow to speed them up, or a manual spin. I guess I just never really looked into these before. Very nice video. 👍

Nice video once again! Its crazy these gyro's cost over $100k and the new ELA is $240k. You can buy a highly engineered and technologically advanced car for closer to $50k. Gyros need to gain in popularity and those prices are holding it back. Rotax is insanely expensive too. They're $40k+ just for the Rotax 915/916 engine.

Love watching gyro videos! As a fixed wing pilot that hasn't flown in a few years, I am wondering about what is needed besides training to get qualified in the gyro. I have not kept my medical up to date. I assume I would need that first, right? I would want thorough instruction of course but does the 20 hour rule still apply? Sorry, so many questions! Looks like fun! Most of my hours (over 600) are in a C172 that I sold years ago.

You don't need a medical to get a sport pilot -gyroplane certificate. For the add on rating, as what you would be going for, we see pilots average between 10-15 hours of instruction before the check ride with one of our instructors.

Non-pilot here... How are gyroplanes affected by temperature? High winds? Do you need to worry about wake turbulence? Is it just a private pilot license or do you need other certifications?
@AdventureAir
@AdventureAir 4 ай бұрын
They're affected by temperatures just as any other aircraft would be. It handles winds better than fixed wing because of the rotary wing. Turbulence isn't as severe in a gyro. In the US,.you can get a light sport pilot -gyroplane certificate with as little as 20 hours of instruction.

Great Visibility. But I guess that's because there are no doors. lol. I didn't think these were till being made. I never see them around my local airport, and this is the first video to pop up on KZbin about them. Kinda cool. A little scary in the same way a roller coaster is? That's the whole point to the aircraft, be one with the wind and birds? But then again I think a Cessna is kinda scary even with doors. Because let's face it, I've seen aluminum foil thicker than the doors on a Cessna so I guess not as important as I am thinking. Which was aerodynamics. I'll have to check these out more, not real familiar with them. thanks for the video. pretty cool.

Enjoyed the video. The only thing I question is why don’t you wind up your rotors in the run up bay. Instead of taxing out onto the runway, stopping and then winding them up. In the meantime no one can use the runway because you have blocked it. At our airport you would be told not to do that.
@AdventureAir

It takes 20-30 seconds to prerotate the rotors. This is a towered airport and they are familiar with our operation and space traffic accordingly. There's no inconvenience to anyone.

Unless told otherwise, commercial airliners typically take a good 20 seconds to line up, check instruments, and spool up for their takeoff run. 20-30 seconds to pre-rotate is hardly an inconvenience and rotating while taxiing presents a potential safety issue.

My only concern is that heavy vibrating throttle in the beginning………….

Kyla that’s just a blender without the bowl on top. You can make giant margaritas with it.

I put so much money into flying on a computer using VR and high-end graphics, but I could’ve bought an airplane by now. Lol

You’re lucky that your dad is involved with aircraft because my dad was involved with welding so my great enjoyment was getting to world quarter inch steel panels on the back of a truck as a base. Lol

Hopefully the energy density of rechargeable batteries gets better because that looks like it would be a pretty good platform to make an electric vehicle. Because it auto rotates you wouldn’t have to have a parachute to have an extra layer of safety if you had a mechanical error

My question is what happens if something goes wrong? Like the one and only motor stops? What’s the glide rate? Or does it fall like rock? Little things like that

That glide beautifully. They are constantly in autorotation. They land very slowly.

Not true, really. They have glide ratio 3:1, which is better than heli autorotation, but Cessna 172 has 8:1. And Cessna has terrible drag. Cirrus SR22 has 10:1 glide. So, in short, if your engine stops over the area with no place to land, like city or sea, you are probably dead. You will be ok as long as you fly over the fields.

@@gorandoreski maybe a parachute of some kind might be a good idea.
