Excellent install video. I've been researching RTT's for about a week now and your video is by far the most "real" install from beginning to end that I've found. Going to watch your bed rack install next. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload the vids.

Thank you. I was wondering about this one. I am going to invest in a rooftop tent now that my wife want's to come out with me on long road trips and hike in the woods.

Nice! Glad you found it helpful. It's a lot more comfortable than sleeping on the rough, cold, damp ground. And can be setup in 2mins, in the dark if need be. Hope you and your wife make some great memories on your road trips.. Thanks for watching.

Bought a soft shell tent and we go on our first trip tomorrow. I got a feeling when we get back (assuming my wife enjoys the trip) then I'm upgrading

@twc-projects I love the look, and it looks like the design of the shell construction. I'm very surprised to see that there's no insulation in the interior shell. Have you done any camping yet in the summer? I'm curious if it's extra warm. And then extra cold on cooler nights. Great video.

Thanks for the kind words. I have not had a chance yet to use it in the summer, but it does have screens on 3 sides, so there is good ventilation for the warmer nights. I have used it in the very cold and it sealed out the wind very well. However, only good sleeping bags will keep you warm. Not sure insulation on the hard shell would do much for keeping the temperature cooler either, unless your shell is facing the sun on a hot day. But this tent is designed to put up and take down quickly, when you're ready to sleep. You shouldn't typically be using it in the heat of the day, so insulation may just be extra weight, extra bulk, and extra cost. Just my opinion though, and I'm not a big camper so I could be wrong about this. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a fantastic day.

Love it! Looks like a great addition for some camping and overnights up at your other site!

Thanks man. It's way better than sleeping on the cold, uneven ground in a regular tent. But the main reason I like it it, beyond being quick and easy to setup/breakdown, is that I'm less concerned about a mountain lion or bear poking their nose in, as long as I don't keep food in there. 😀

Thank you for this video and the other two! I currently have a Clamp Hard Shell, but sticks a bit in the front of my Grand Cherokee. Did a bunch of research for a soft/hard that open to the side with good air dynamics and I think this the one. Price is really good so I went ahead and bought it along with the awning. Two questions for you my friend! Is there anything inside that keeps the top from pooling in if rains? Also is there anything that will keep it from closing on you should it get super windy? I saw a comment of someone saying that the cargo spot might trap water, but glad I live in the desert so we don't get much rain.

First off, glad you found this video helpful. I've seen some very expensive hardshell tents that do a good job of pulling the sides in when you fold up, making it easier/quicker to pack and run. This one, however, is not one of those. You do need to tuck a little on both sides before getting a clean close. No real effort though; just another 45secs of work. As far as the standing water, that does happen when you're truck is on a level or pitching forward. But it's a hard shell, so it doesn't matter unless you're afraid of a few water ring stains that have to be washed off now and again. Hope I answered your questions. Thanks for the support and for commenting. Have a fantastic day.

Great video, Im thinking of purchasing the same RTT. What are the dimensions of the RTT when its closed? I can only find specs on it with it open. I wanted to get an idea of how well it will fit my truck. Thank you.

Detailed dimensions can be found on my website, on the same page as the installation guide. Go to twc-projects.net/resources and look for the Rough County manual image at the top. Click on that, and you'll see the "closed" dimensions at bottom of the page. Hope that helps.

Great video - been thinking of making a similar purchase for my truck for fishing trips. You might have convinced me to do so. Do you think you’ll keep the racks/hard top camper on the truck permanently?

Thanks. And great question. I probably won't, so that I can load boards up there that are too long for my bed. Where to store it though, when not using, is another question. Thought about making some kind of a lift in the garage to hoist up and leave suspended. That way it could be a one-man-show. But that's a project for another day. Hope if you get one you really enjoy it. It's way better than sleeping on the hard, uneven, cold ground. Thanks for your comments and be sure to check out my website for lots more valuable info. Looking at one of these. I see this video is 11 months old. How do you like the tent after having it for a while and how is it holding up? Also, how long is it? Rough County could not provide the closed dimensions. They said boxed, it is 67" long, 50.5" wide and 15" high.

Honestly, I haven't had much chance to use it, beyond the 1st couple times right after I bought it. Hopefully now that it's starting to warm up, I'll get a chance to use it more. Seems to be good quality for the price. See my website for more details and measurements on the Resources page. twc-projects.net/resources Thanks for watching and for reaching out. Have a fantastic day.

How’s condensation been? Any leakage in rain?
@twc-projects
@twc-projects Жыл бұрын
Sadly, I just haven't had a chance to use it since the last video where it was 26degs, which was the 1st and only time I've used it. Thought I would use it a lot more than I've been able to. So can't really give you any insights on condensation, or any new info yet. Sorry I can't be of more help at the moment. But I appreciate your watching and commenting..

What were the fasteners that you installed on the bottom of the tent to mount it on the rack. I bought a aluminum 800lb haul master truck rack and I'm having trouble getting on the rack.

I used the mounting hardware that came with the tent. Went on super easy; not even 5mins, once I got help lifting the tent in place. Maybe try calling RC and explain your situation. They may be able to send you what you need. Thanks for your comments and for watching.

What is the deployed wind rating on it, does it have that info? I deploy for post hurricane help in Florida so I’m looking for something that can take at least 40-50 mph winds. Thanks.

Sorry. I'm not sure. I checked the website, but it didn't list a wind rating. You're welcome to contact the manufacturer and inquire. I don't have any affiliation with them. www.roughcountry.com/rough-country-hard-shell-roof-rack-tent-99057.html

how do you like the tent so far my friend? about to buy the same one!
@twc-projects
@twc-projects Жыл бұрын
I've really only used it once so far, but it was very comfortable, and there were no squeaks or creeks when I moved around. Seemed to keep the 10-15mph winds at bay as well. I'm pleased with it, but disappointed in myself that I've used it far less than I had expected I would, so maybe wish I hadn't dropped that much money now. Hopefully I'll get enough use in the future to justify it.. Definitely everything I hoped it was going to be though.

The only thing keeping me from buying it is that storage spot , looks like it will hold water and I do have the rough country soft shell , which leaks in the rain
@twc-projects
@twc-projects Жыл бұрын
If the front of your vehicle is pitched slightly forward, it does hold water. But on a level or with your front slightly higher, the rain runs out the back. It seems like they intended it to be a luggage rack, which could be valuable, but there are not tie-down hooks, so seems like a waste. I agree if they just made the top slimmer, it would be better. But overall it seems to be well made and a good value. Certainly serves its purpose well. Thanks for your comments and for watching.

How long are the mounting rails on the tent?
@twc-projects
@twc-projects Жыл бұрын
Finally got a chance to measure the tent mounting rails. They are 58.5 inches long, but the front of your forward rack bar, to the back or your rear rack bar, you'll want a max distance of 55 inches. This is because the tent mounting hardware needs about 1 and 3/4 inch on each end inside the track. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.

Thanks. Yes, I think you're probably right. The "overlanders" (the other 1%) who use a roof top tent likely buy more expensive ones because they can justify them. Thanks for watching and for your comments.
